{"id":135914,"date":"2022-06-06T14:49:03","date_gmt":"2022-06-06T07:49:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/210.57.208.200\/2022\/06\/06\/two-factors-affecting-medical-expenses-of-bpjs-diabetes-mellitus-patients\/"},"modified":"2022-06-07T15:20:46","modified_gmt":"2022-06-07T08:20:46","slug":"two-factors-affecting-medical-expenses-of-bpjs-diabetes-mellitus-patients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/en\/two-factors-affecting-medical-expenses-of-bpjs-diabetes-mellitus-patients\/","title":{"rendered":"Two factors affecting medical expenses of BPJS diabetes mellitus patients"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>UNAIR NEWS \u2013<\/strong> Diabetes Mellitus (DM) Type 2 is a chronic disease that many people suffer from.\u00a0Treatment for DM patients requires long-term medical care which will incur considerable medical expenses.\u00a0Then, how is Type 2 DM patients\u2019 medical expenses regulated by the Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan)?<\/p>\n\n<p>BPJS Kesehatan exists to provide health insurance to the public, including for Type 2 DM patients. It has attracted the interest of a joint research team of pharmacy lecturers\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/210.57.208.200\">51动漫<\/a> and Muhammadiyah University of Malang to conduct research.\u00a0They are Aniza Oktaviana, Liza Pristianty, and Ika Ratna Hidayati.<\/p>\n\n<p>Liza Pristanty, researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy UNAIR, explained that the treatment of DM 2 can be done in two ways. The first is through pharmacological treatment using oral antidiabetic drugs and insulin.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThen you can also use non-pharmacological treatments that involve lifestyle changes,\u201d she explained on Sunday, June 5, 2022.<\/p>\n\n<p>She continued that funding for the treatment of Type 2 DM can be analyzed using the\u00a0cost of illness\u00a0method.\u00a0<em>\u00a0<\/em>The method uses an approach to identify and evaluate the cost of a patient\u2019s illness.<\/p>\n\n<p>The research team conducted a study on the medical expenses of outpatient treatment for Type 2 DM patients BPJS participants at the Mulyorejo Public Health Center Malang.\u00a0Researchers conducted structured interviews with 58 patients using\u00a0purposive sampling technique.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cCosts arising from DM treatment are direct costs which consist of direct medical costs and direct non-medical costs. In addition, there are also indirect costs,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n\n<p>The team\u2019s research results showed that the treatment costs for Type 2 DM patients consisted of direct medical costs of Rp. 173,560.00 \u2013 Rp. 1,266,240.00, direct non-medical costs of Rp. 0.00 \u2013 Rp. 240,000.00. Meanwhile, indirect costs are Rp. 0.00 \u2013 Rp. 1,200,000.00.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThus, the medical expenses for Type 2 DM patients for one year are in Rp. 173,560 to Rp. 6,090,240,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n\n<p>The UNAIR Faculty of Pharmacy lecturer said that the range of expenses is affected by two things: the frequency of patient visits and patient compliance in carrying out therapy.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cIf the patient is obedient in carrying out therapy, then the patient can reduce the incurred costs,\u201d she said.
