The COVID-19 pandemic has led to changes in the maternal health service system. Women with pregnancy, during delivery, and during puerperium are vulnerable to contracting Covid-19, so during the Covid-19 pandemic there were several problems related to healthcare access, patient management, referral processes and Covid-19 screening protocols. This problem can increase the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study aims to analyze trends in maternal mortality in East Java Province before and during the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n
The study used secondary data from the East Java Provincial Health Office. The data in 2019 is used as data before the Covid 19 pandemic, and data during the Covid 19 pandemic is from 2020. The collected data is then analyzed using statistical tests and interpreted.<\/p>\n\n
From 38 cities\/districts in East Java, maternal deaths occurred in 22 districts\/cities in 2020. This study shows that there is no difference between age of death, place of death and relay referral in 2019 and 2020. There are differences in maternal mortality according to gravida in the period and these results require a more comprehensive study.<\/p>\n\n
Most cases of maternal death were found in women aged 20-35 years, hospitalized, during the puerperium, and experiencing complications due to eclampsia, so it can be concluded that during the Covid-19 pandemic, health services should focus not only on Covid-19 because the maternal death is still a threat and must be watched out for.<\/p>\n\n
This study could not provide holistic results because it does not directly examine the primary data. Further research is needed using quantitative and qualitative primary data so that the study results will be more comprehensive.<\/p>\n\n
