Prof Dr. Emy Susanti MA, Head of UNAIR PSGIS, introduced the facility to the new students on Thursday, August 18, 2022, during the inauguration of undergraduate and vocational students.<\/p>\n\n<p>Prof Emy stated that PSGIS stands to protect students from any violence in university.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cParticularly, gender-based violence,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n<p>PSGIS is responsible for ensuring that all students are treated equally and fairly, without discrimination. \u201cEither man and woman, disabled person or nondisabled, minority or majority, all belongs to UNAIR. Students should not be worried as UNAIR will guide you properly,\u201d said the Association of Indonesian Women\/Gender and Children Study Centers (ASGWI) Chairman.<\/p>\n\n<p>PSGIS oversees gender issues in multiple ways, such as lectures, training, community service, research, and public services. \u201cWe provide lectures and training for students guide to preventing harassment, discriminatory and biased actions,\u201d said the Gender study expert.<\/p>\n\n<p>PSGIS opens volunteer opportunities for new students to participate in PSGIS activities involving students from all faculties.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cSo students can interact and spread the awareness and knowledge we shared to prevent activities far from the academic culture,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n<p>Prof Emy stated that sexual assaults still commonly occur. Catcalling is one of the few examples.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cViolence rooted in unawareness and lack of education. Which one is allowed, which one is not. You can learn that here,\u201d Prof Emy added.<\/p>\n\n<p>For students who encounter violence, PSGIS provides a crisis center for their safe space. However, she said that the safe space is not limited to violence cases.
