{"id":180642,"date":"2023-01-02T11:49:43","date_gmt":"2023-01-02T04:49:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/unair-economist-names-gold-as-one-of-safest-assets\/"},"modified":"2023-01-03T11:12:07","modified_gmt":"2023-01-03T04:12:07","slug":"unair-economist-names-gold-as-one-of-safest-assets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/en\/unair-economist-names-gold-as-one-of-safest-assets\/","title":{"rendered":"UNAIR Economist names gold as one of safest assets"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>UNAIR NEWS \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Lecturer of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) 51动漫 (<a href=\"http:\/\/unair.ac.id\">UNAIR<\/a>) Dr Rossanto Dwi Handoyo SE MSi PhD has his view about the increased interest rates in America (The Fed) followed by an increase in Indonesia (BI).\u00a0In this regard, he mentioned several examples of safe investments to save the macroeconomy.<\/p>\n\n<p>Some of them are holding foreign currency, stocks, property, gold, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kemenkeu.go.id\/ori\">bonds<\/a>\u00a0(debentures).\u00a0On this matter, Rossanto emphasized that each investment has its pattern.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Asset games<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>In his opinion, it is better to avoid foreign currencies because the rupiah is depreciating by 7 to 8 percent, affecting the dollar exchange rate in the foreign exchange market.\u00a0The trigger, investors are buying a lot of dollars, causing the rupiah to weaken.\u00a0Likewise, with stocks, not all stocks are good, but some are\u00a0negative.\u00a0\u201cIf there are foreigners investing shares in Indonesia but the profit is less than 7-8 percent, it means a loss, so investors will look for other alternative assets,\u201d explained Rossanto.<\/p>\n\n<p>Furthermore, home properties are now sluggish because purchases don\u2019t react quickly. Without a doubt, Rossanto assessed that the aggressive increase in interest rates also affected rising property prices.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Therefore, for now, one of the least risky assets is gold. \u201cThe safest asset is gold, the price of gold will rise and quickly be converted to money. When interest rates go up, the selling price of gold goes down, which drives people to transfer their asset ownership to gold,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"393\" src=\"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/ekonom-unair-dr-rossanto-dwi-handoyo-se-msi-phd.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-180549\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">UNAIR economist Rossanto Dwi Handoyo SE MSi PhD. (Photo: Personal Documentation)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p><strong>Effect of bonds<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Rossanto added that bonds or debentures also received a significant influence from the increase in BI interest rates, including state sharia bonds or state sukuk, which provide benefits with a profit-sharing system. In that case, an increase in the BI interest rate will result in an increase in deposit (savings) rates. It means that interest rates on loans and bonds have also risen, including the country\u2019s yield rate. Moreover, investor confidence in issuing state bonds and sukuk is still very good.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cIf you keep interest rates the same\u2026.well, it\u2019s likely that no one will want to buy. Even though bonds in Indonesia are in the safe category, because the Indonesian government is always on time in paying off principal and interest,\u201d said the FEB UNAIR lecturer.<\/p>\n\n<p>Indonesian government issuing bonds are not without reason, he continued, the Indonesian government\u2019s steps in issuing government bonds and sukuk also took into account market conditions and the need for debt funds. <\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThe US government\u2019s debt is much bigger than Indonesia\u2019s, which is 120 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
