The social media, which has reached more than 100 million users in just five days, is predicted to compete with its text-based social media predecessor, Twitter.<\/p>\n\n<p>Professor of Media Studies\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/en\/\">at 51动漫 <\/a>(UNAIR), Prof. Dra Rachmah Ida MCom PhD responded to the emergence of Threads. She mentioned that competition is a natural thing in the media industry. Furthermore, Threads does not only compete with Twitter, but also with other social media.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cIn the scope of digital economy, all social media are made to compete to get as many users as possible.\u00a0It is because the digital media industry is the same as the\u00a0mainstream\u00a0mass media industry.\u00a0Where the source of income comes from customers and advertisements,\u201d explained the UNAIR lecturer included in the AD Scientific Index\u2019s Top 100 Social Sciences Scientist.<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color\"><strong>Thriving potential<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p>Even though users signed up for the new social media just out of curiosity, Threads still has the potential to survive in the media industry.\u00a0According to Prof Ida, the fact that Threads is made by one of the\u00a0Tech Giants\u00a0also makes Threads\u2019 path smooth to compete with other social media.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"630\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/prof-ida.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-218283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/prof-ida.jpg 630w, https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/prof-ida-185x300.jpg 185w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>If you look at it historically, well-known social media like Twitter is starting to show a lot of interest because many politicians and world leaders have joined it.\u00a0\u201cPeople are starting to join in on social media.\u00a0Because they feel they can follow and comment on global issues easily, they feel part of\u00a0a network\u00a0of world leaders,\u201d said Indonesia\u2019s first professor of media studies.<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color\">Interactivity on Twitter<\/h4>\n\n<p>Having almost the same appearance and features, Threads users may like or search for things on Twitter.\u00a0\u201cIf in the future users like to build\u00a0networks\u00a0like on Twitter, then they need features that can increase interactivity more quickly,\u201d said\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fisip.unair.ac.id\/\">FISIP UNAIR lecturer.<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p>Not only interactivity, but Twitter also has more features such as\u00a0the fanbase,\u00a0roleplay, and anonymity that young people love to express themselves freely.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cBut again, the success or failure of social media can be seen from how social media developers can understand the trends people like,\u201d said the UNAIR Communication Department lecturer.
