{"id":235597,"date":"2023-09-12T16:05:29","date_gmt":"2023-09-12T09:05:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/the-story-of-avilia-fk-iisma-student-at-ucd-ireland\/"},"modified":"2023-09-12T16:52:51","modified_gmt":"2023-09-12T09:52:51","slug":"the-story-of-avilia-fk-iisma-student-at-ucd-ireland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unair.ac.id\/en\/the-story-of-avilia-fk-iisma-student-at-ucd-ireland\/","title":{"rendered":"The story of Avilia, FK IISMA student at UCD Ireland"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>UNAIR NEWS<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Avilia Ramadhani Avidar is one of 51动漫 students participating in the IISMA (Indonesia International Student Mobility Awards) program this year.\u00a0Through this program, Avilia will spend one semester taking\u00a0an autumn course\u00a0at University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland.<\/p>\n\n<p>Avilia, a medical student\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fk.unair.ac.id\/\">at the Faculty of Medicine<\/a>\u00a0(FK) UNAIR, has been an active student at UCD Ireland from September to the end of December.\u00a0UCD is a top campus in Ireland with students from more than 150 countries.<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color\"><strong>Taking Humanities major<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p>She admitted she was a bit reckless in choosing UCD as UCD itself offers more courses from the social and humanities groups. It certainly means that Avilia will learn many new things, considering she is a medical student.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cIn the fourth semester, I learned that being a doctor should not only be competent in theories. But, we also have to be culturally competent, especially when we provide services in a multicultural country like Indonesia,\u201d explained Avilia on Monday, September 11, 2023.<\/p>\n\n<p>Some courses she took at UCD included\u00a0<em>Children\u2019s Literature, Introduction to Folklore, History of Science,<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>War: Ancient and Modern.\u00a0<\/em>Her interest in making science storybooks for children motivated her decision to take several courses.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cI myself have plans to make\u00a0a science storybook.\u00a0One of them I took\u00a0<em>Children\u2019s Literature,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0she explained.<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color\"><strong>Introducing Indonesian culture<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p>Studying in Ireland also allows Avilia to introduce Indonesia to local residents. \u201cIISMA UCD itself has planned to hold a traditional wedding ceremony on Heroes\u2019 Day celebrations. There are siraman, gamelan, traditional dance, and so on so that people there can feel what it\u2019s like to attend a traditional Indonesian wedding,\u201d said Avilia.<\/p>\n\n<p>She also expressed her desire to join the One Health community\u00a0to learn its application to global issues.\u00a0\u201cI also plan to introduce <em>sinom<\/em>, a traditional drink during\u00a0dysmenorrhea\u00a0(painful menstruation), especially in Java.\u00a0Apart from the scientific aspect, it can also be viewed from various other aspects,\u201d added Avilia.<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color\"><strong>Experiencing culture shock<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p>Life in Ireland is no doubt a challenge in itself for Avilia. Just arriving on Saturday, September 2, 2023, she said that Irish culture is quite different from Indonesia, especially regarding the social aspects of its society.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cWe often make small talk, but here, you mind your own business.\u00a0The downside is that it\u2019s not easy to make new friends here compared to Indonesians, who often chat with new people.\u00a0But, the people are very nice when we engage with them,\u201d said Avilia.<\/p>\n\n<p>The weather is also a challenge for Avilia. Ireland is now transitioning from summer to autumn. This condition makes it difficult to choose clothes that suit the weather. However, she admitted to enjoying her daily life in Dublin City.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cBiodiversity is still very well maintained here. Pedestrians here are highly respected.
