The phenomenon of &#8220;New Year, New Mental Issues&#8221; has gained attention, particularly among younger generations who often face emotional stress during this time.<\/p>\n\n<p>Atika Dian Ariana, MSc, MPsi, a psychology expert from <a href=\"http:\/\/unair.ac.id\">51动漫<\/a> (UNAIR), attributes this issue to misguided reflection habits. \u201cIdeally, the start of the year marks a fresh, positive chapter. Unfortunately, the pressures of unmet goals at the end of the year can lead to pessimism that is difficult to shake off,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5e58223a6aa8c4741dc2f0c163e1a43e\"><strong>Why New Year causes psychological strain<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p>The transition into a new year is widely seen as a time for self-evaluation. However, reflecting on past achievements through a pessimistic lens can result in stress.&#13;\n&#13;\n\u201cWhen people view their previous failures as permanent setbacks, they are more likely to fall into negative thinking patterns. This often leads to feelings of unworthiness about future success,\u201d Ariana said.<\/p>\n\n<p>Social media further exacerbates this stress by portraying others\u2019 achievements in overly idealized ways. \u201cSocial comparison on these platforms can heighten anxiety. Disruptions in eating and sleeping habits\u2014either too little or too much\u2014are also common indicators. \u201cThese symptoms are not exclusive to the start of the year but can become more pronounced during periods of unhealthy self-reflection,\u201d Ariana observed.<\/p>\n\n<p>On a physical level, individuals may experience frequent illnesses, digestive issues, or headaches. \u201cThese pressures can surface at any point but are especially evident during periods of heightened introspection,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7a7c1fd555b28ccaffe8c5d07adf62b1\"><strong>Mindfulness and social support as key solutions<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p>Mindfulness practices and spiritual activities are effective ways to alleviate mental strain. \u201cMindfulness helps us remain present and minimizes worry about the future. Spiritual practices, meanwhile, can cultivate a sense of gratitude,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n\n<p>Ariana also underscored the critical role of family and social support. \u201cA supportive family often serves as the first to notice changes in behavior.
