UNAIR NEWS<\/strong> \u2013 Beyond academic excellence, 51动漫<\/a> (UNAIR) students are actively engaged in community service as part of their commitment to the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education). One such contribution comes from Mochamad Rafi Pratama Hariyanto Putra, a 2022 medical student and recipient of the 2024 Pertamina Foundation Sobat Bumi scholarship.<\/p>\n\n

Together with fellow scholarship recipients, Putra took part in a renewable energy-focused community service program. Held in Panglungan Village, Wonosalam, Jombang, from May 11 to 13, 2025, the initiative sought to support the creation of a self-sustaining \u201cenergy village\u201d while stimulating the local economy, particularly among farmers and small-scale producers of local goods like vegetables, durian, and coffee. <\/p>\n\n

Tackling water scarcity with hydro-powered solutions<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n

Putra explained that the program was designed in response to persistent water shortages experienced by residents during the dry season, which had disrupted daily life and farming activities. \u201cDuring the dry season, limited access to water interferes with everyday routines and livelihoods,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n

To address the issue, the team introduced several key innovations: installing solar panels to generate renewable energy, setting up solar-powered water pumps, providing training on how to use and maintain the system, and placing water tanks to serve as reservoirs.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cThe solar panels supply power to the pumps, which move water from local springs to residential areas,\u201d Putra added. <\/p>\n\n

Enthusiastic community response<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n

Putra shared that the village residents were highly receptive to the project. Beyond benefiting from the improved water access, locals warmly welcomed the students into their community. \u201cThey treated us to traditional village foods and showed us around to highlight the village\u2019s potential,\u201d he recalled. <\/p>\n\n

The residents\u2019 enthusiasm was clear from day one, as many began using the clean water system immediately after installation. \u201cThe results were felt right away\u2014now they have a more stable water supply even during dry spells,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n

Advancing green local economy<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n

Looking ahead, Putra and his team are planning to expand the initiative. \u201cIn July, we aim to develop a hydroponic farming area integrated with a fishpond,\u201d he said. The project is intended to supply nutritious food while also strengthening the local economy. <\/p>\n\n

Despite limited personnel, the team successfully carried out all stages of the initiative through strategic division of responsibilities. Their effort reflects the spirit of collaboration and dedication among UNAIR students to support sustainable, self-reliant rural communities.<\/p>\n\n
