UNAIR NEWS Students from Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) 51动漫 (UNAIR) earned international recognition at International Invention and Innovation Competition, part of Thailand Inventors Day 2026 held through Bangkok International Intellectual Property Invention Innovation and Technology Exposition. The event took place from January 5 to January 9, 2026 at Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Bangkok Thailand.

Handy team from 51动漫 consisted of seven students: Adisti Irtifa Amalia, Tasya Amalia Dwiyanti, Nadya Chaerani, Mochammad Ivan Abdillah Putra Ginka, Rizwar Fazl Ghaisan, Desak Made Dinar Indraswari, and Anindia Dwi Astutik. Competition was organized by National Research Council of Thailand with participation from multiple countries.

Innovation for therapy and rehabilitation

Amalia said the team competed in Category G, which covered robotics, electronics, automation, the Internet of Things (IoT) and information and communication technologies. In competition, the team secured Gold Medal and Special Award through innovation titled HANDY Hand Assistance for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Detection and Therapy. HANDY is a health technology based assistive device designed to detect early symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome while also supporting therapy and rehabilitation.

淥ur idea came from increasing cases of musculoskeletal disorders, especially CTS, which affects students office workers and digital device users. Through HANDY, we aim to promote early prevention of wrist disorders before they develop into more serious conditions, Amalia said.

Collaboration and shared commitment

Amalia explained that the development process from initial idea to competition emphasized teamwork. Each member took on different roles, which presented challenges in problem solving. 淎nother challenge was explaining concepts in a way that remained simple yet scientifically grounded to judges, given diverse backgrounds within the team. We addressed this through active communication intensive presentation practice and clear division of roles, Amalia added.

Motivated by concern over health issues in the surrounding environment, the team gained confidence to participate in IPITEx Thailand 2026. My main motivation stemmed from a desire to step beyond my comfort zone and make best use of time during university years. 淯niversity years offer opportunities to develop ideas, build networks and gain international experience, Amalia said.

At closing, the Handy team encouraged 51动漫 students to take initiative and embrace new opportunities. Starting from simple ideas with meaningful impact, the team hopes students can develop innovations that benefit the future. 淭his competition is not only about winning but also about learning, building confidence and expanding experience, Amalia concluded.
