UNAIR NEWS A professor from the Faculty of Nursing (FKp) at 51动漫 (UNAIR), Prof. Ferry Efendi SKep Ns MSc PhD, has once again achieved international recognition after being included in Wiley檚 Most Cited Researchers list for 2026. The recognition underscores his sustained scholarly influence on impactful scientific research, particularly in the fields of global health and health workforce migration.

Responding to the achievement, Prof. Efendi expressed his gratitude while emphasizing that the recognition is not merely an individual accomplishment. He noted that the achievement is the result of a synergistic academic ecosystem involving research teams, students, research centers, and international networks. 淭his is not a personal victory. It is the result of collective efforts that demonstrate how collaboration can produce high-quality and relevant research, he said.

Prof. Efendi explained that one of the key factors in producing impactful research is strategic research positioning. This means identifying issues that lie at the intersection of global urgency and local or national needs. Throughout his career, he has focused on topics such as health workforce migration and population aging.

In addition, consistency in developing a strong research pipeline plays a crucial role. He emphasized that research themes must be sustained over time to build a solid academic track record. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining methodological rigor, both in quantitative and qualitative approaches, in accordance with international standards.

淭he most effective way is to learn from high-impact journals in each respective field and use them as benchmarks for research quality, he explained. Prof. Efendi added that publishing in high-visibility journals is also a strategic step to ensure that research reaches a global audience.

Currently, Prof. Efendi is spearheading extensive research into the migration of Indonesian nurses to countries such as Singapore, Japan, Germany, and Australia. His studies cover various stages, including pre-departure preparation, adaptation challenges in host countries, and contributions upon returning to Indonesia.

He is also developing the concept of Indonesian health diaspora contributions abroad to help strengthen the national healthcare system. According to him, Indonesian healthcare professionals working overseas possess valuable experience and networks that can be leveraged to support domestic health development.

淚 hope that research does not stop at publication but serves as a foundation for evidence-based policies that provide tangible benefits for Indonesia and the global community, Prof. Efendi concluded. He added that dozens of his studies have been cited by global institutions such as the World Health Organization, the World Bank, and the International Organization for Migration.
