UNAIR hosts regional round of ON MIPA-PT ahead of national competition

UNAIR NEWS (UNAIR) is preparing to host the national round of the National Olympiad in Mathematics and Natural Sciences for Higher Education (ON MIPA-PT) in June 2026. As part of the lead-up, UNAIR organized the Regional VII selection stage, conducted in a hybrid format that combined in-person and online participation. The event brought together 3,712 participants from 283 universities across Indonesia and was held over two days, Tuesday揥ednesday (May 56, 2026), on the fourth floor of ASEEC Tower, Campus B揇harmawangsa.

The competition featured four subject areas: Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Mathematics drew 1,107 participants, followed by Biology with 1,040, Chemistry with 802, and Physics with 763 participants.

Participants completed the selection process using the Safe Exam Browser (SEB), while judges supervised through dedicated Zoom Meeting rooms. UNAIR also arranged several physical spaces, including the Bali Room for Mathematics, the Toraja Room for Physics, the Banten Room for Physics, and the Rote Room for Biology.

UNAIR Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Eko Supeno, MSi, said preparations had been underway since January 2026. He noted that UNAIR檚 experience in hosting large-scale academic events helped ensure a more efficient and structured preparation process.

淐ompared to PIMNAS, which we hosted in 2024, this event is relatively less complex because it is largely conducted online. Based on our experience, we were well prepared, Dr. Supeno said.

From the organizers standpoint, Dr. Supeno reported no major challenges during either preparation or implementation. Strong institutional backing and reliable technological infrastructure at UNAIR played a key role in ensuring the event ran smoothly. Minor disruptions were reported mainly from participants locations outside the UNAIR campus, including power outages and unstable internet connections.

Unlike the regional round, the upcoming national stage will be conducted fully in person, bringing together participants from across the country. UNAIR has begun coordinating across departments and preparing the necessary infrastructure to support the event檚 success.

The organizing committee for this prestigious competition involves the Directorate of Student Affairs in collaboration with other units, including the Directorate of Infrastructure and Facilities (Dit. Pilar), which supports logistics and transportation. In addition, student volunteers were deployed to assist with the technical aspects of the examination. 淭hey assist the judges in monitoring participants, ensuring that any potential misconduct or irregularities can be detected, he explained.
