Another Airlangga Cheap Market for Surabaya

UNAIR NEWS – Successfully held in Jolosutro in the opening of Gerbang Desa Volume IV, Cheap Market was held in Jakarta, Surabaya, as a form of concern of students to a nearby community.The activity was held together with the Urban Area Cleaning Movement on Sunday, September 2, by the Ministry of Community Service BEM UNAIR.

Muhammad Sajid Mubarok, chief executive of Airlangga Cheap Market said that the market this time managed to sell forty food packages to the poor in Sidotopo Jaya.Sembako at a price of forty thousand per package, successfully sold at half the price, which is twenty thousand rupiah.Each package contains one kilogram of sugar, one kilogram of rice, one liter of oil, and two packs of noodles.

This time the market opened at ten o’clock in the morning, after the cleaning activity was over.Assisted by Gaungcommittee,volunteers, and the new family of BEM, the members of Nyata Muda Airlangga Ministry of Community Service.

“In the future, on September 9, we will carry out Airlangga Cheap Market again in Keputih,” explained Sajid.

The enthusiasm of the residents was quite high, as evidenced by less than two hours, the food packages were sold out.However, not all residents can buy the basic needs.Only citizens who previously got a coupon can buy it.

“We prioritized people who really need it.For this reason, on the previous day we distributed coupons to 200 selected people in advance to avoid misconduct, ” explained the 2017 FISIP student.

Meanwhile, the capital used to implement the Airlangga Cheap Market was entirely derived from student donations.That way, UNAIR students indirectly contributed to the success of the activity.

Sajid hoped that the cheap market can alleviate the problems of residents related to the price of basic foods that continues to rise and it can improve the health and nutrition of the community.
