UNAIR NEWS Married to your professional partner? It might never cross the mind of Dini Heryani, dr., Sp.BS and Taufiq Fatchur Rochman, dr., Sp.BS. As they fell for each other at work, their lives have become more colorful as they have to maintain professionalism.
Both are graduates with achievements of Neurosurgery specialist program, Faculty of Medicine (FK), 51动漫 (UNAIR). The couple which married on June 10, 2011 were just conferred as neurosurgery specialists in FK UNAIR hall last Wednesday, July 20.
Dini won second place of oral presentation in PIT PERSPEBSI (Indonesian Neurosurgery Specialist Association) in 2014 in Palembang. While Taufiq won the best poster in Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons (ACNS) in FK UNAIR March 2016.
The achievements were not easily achieved. Both are professional partners and love the field of neurosurgery which has known as the most complicated medical field.
Their first meeting was in FK UNAIR, general basic course, in 2011. Time goes on, they were attracted to each other as they were finishing their assignments together until finally they decided to get married after six months knowing each other.
淎t the time, we didn檛 want to postpone as we didn檛 want to change our mind. And our studies after that would be even busier, said taufiq.
The couple understood the consequence they would face after marriage. Managing their rhythm to work as resident surgeons was not easy as their jobs were dynamic and time-spending.
淎nd then there檚 long and tiring operation schedules, such as the spinal operation which can last for 15 hours in the operating theatre, said Dini.
At first, their decision to get married did not have positive responses from people around them. Some even doubted their relationship. 淪ome friends were skeptical. What happen if both were busy. But apart from that we had our resolves, took it easy, enjoyed and Alhamdulillah we are fine, said Dini.
Starting a family is not always a smooth ride. Both admitted that they had their difficulties, as everybody else, to understand their personal characters, to manage their professional schedules.
淲e were scheduled in the same schedule of operation. If it happened, my parents or parents in law accompanied our child at home, said the woman graduated from the bachelor program of Medicine of FK.
In some occasions, both discussed 榝iercely at work. It was even brought at home. 淎t first it often happened. If there was a problem at work, we discussed further at home. But then we realized that it was not a good thing to do. Professional business must remain at workplace and at home, all attention was for the family, said Taufiq.
What also important is the commitment to be truthful to each other and never postpone or hide a problem.漌hen there is a problem, we try to solve it immediately. It must be resolved before the day ends. It is important for us to always maintain our mood, said the woman born on October 28, 1982.
Even though both love the same job, family is the priority. Both try to spend time together with their daughter, Andita Syifa Rahima. Beside spending time with their daughter, Dini and Taufiq also spend some time together. 淚f we have spare time, we watch action movies or go fishing, said Dini. 淢y wife likes basketball, but if not, we just stay in, it檚 tiring, said the husband.
楥haracter of Surgeons
As a woman, having a profession as a neurosurgeon is not an easy thing to do, there are not many women in this field. In its practice, when you handle a patient in the operating table, professionalism demands not only the operation technique mastery but also physical readiness to be fit as often the case is complicated and expects great concentration.
淢en and women are physically different; it has been a great challenge for me. As I like details, I enjoy the job, said Dini.
For Taufiq, every job has its risks. It comes to how we manage the feeling and communication with our couple. It is one of reasons why the man born on December 5, 1983 adores his wife. Being a surgeon demands bravery, diligence and certainty, finally it affects his perspective to view his wife.
In the end of the conversation, both said that they will go back to Samarinda, the wife檚 hometown as she is with three months pregnancy.
Being in love with a friend and a partner at work as Taufiq and Dini is quite unique. It often inspires some of their colleagues. 淲ho used to be skeptical with this relationship, now change their mindset. They are open to the idea more. It all comes back the intention, said Dini. (*)
