UNAIR NEWS – 2017 is the second year forWomen Hero event organized by the Ministry of Women Empowerment BEM 51动漫.This year Women Heroheld on Sunday, October 29 was enlivened by a talk show with contemporary women who have influenced the wider community as speakers.
They are Niken, Deputy Secretary for Gender Equality of Indonesian Ministry of Women Empowerment;Suraiya Kamaruzzaman, the woman activist and founder of Flower Aceh organization;Genie Anggita, a Creative Director;and Merrie Elizabeth an entrepreneur.The talk show took place in the Hall of Amerta Management Office Campus C UNAIR, with the number of participants no less than 420 students.
The event was welcomed enthusiastically by students, both UNAIR students and other campuses from various cities in Indonesia. There were many seminar participants from various universities and NGOs.
The talk showdiscusses women’s issues and the efforts of each speaker in their own field of work.
“We as women should not be a burden of development, but be part of the development itself,” said Niken.
Niken said, if women become parts in the development, then the awareness to contribute to the state can be realized.
In thetalk show, Suraiya described the importance of women’s role through the figure of Alva Edison.Suraiya said, the role of Alva Edison檚 mother was significant in his achievement inventing the light bulb.
“Alva Edison’s mother educated her son to be such a great person.Do not belittle with the roles we can play, “Suraiya said.
To all participants, Genie Anggita shared her ideas on the design she has spread to various places in Indonesia, such as the design of Rail Suroboyo, Soekarno Hatta Airport, and creative design for the community in Raja Ampat.
A young businesswoman Merrie Elizabeth shared the story of her career as a successful entrepreneur before the age of 30 years.
On that occasion, BEM UNAIR also gave awards to some women who have given positive influence to the society.
In the end of the talk show, the committee presented Dewi Lestari, author of a nationally recognizednovels,听such asPerahu Kertas,听Supernova,听Filosofi Kopi, andMadre.The event became livelier with enthusiasm coming from the participants.
On the occasion, the participants took the opportunity to ask questions to Dee, Dewi Lestari檚 pen name.All questions were answered well by Dee.(*)
