Brunei Students Follow KKN UNAIR in Blitar

UNAIR NEWS“ There were 15 students from Brunei Darussalam University learning together in the community of Kemloko Village, Nglegok Sub-district, Blitar Regency.They attended theCommunity Outreach Programfor two weeks, starting from October 6-21, 2017.

Community Outreach Program isheld in collaboration between 51¶¯Âþ and Brunei Darussalam University.In the program, the students got many lessons.On the contrary, the people of Kemloko Village also gained lessons from students.

During their stay in Kemloko, these foreign students did a lot of activities such as making kites, Java sugar, and cassava chips.In addition, they are also taught to play puppets and dancereog bulqiodance, original reog dance of Kemloko Village.

“We were taught reog bulqiodance and given the opportunity to appear in front of the village chief when there is a cultural night there,” said Nur Azimah Binti Majuasin, a Brunei Darussalam student majoring in Business Administration.

Living with people in Kemloko was a new experience.Not only the weather and the food, the daily activities and the culture of society are also different.

While in Kemloko, they live with the local community.Besides following community activities, they also taught school students, from early childhood to junior high.

“For us, all the experience is new.The most memorable is when following sholawatan.I am happy because the neighbors are all friendly, “said Nur Azimah Binti Majuassin student of Bussines Administration program.

Meanwhile, Nur Aqilah Binti Hj.Abd.Ghafar student from the same program said that two weeks are very short time.

“For similar KKN to be held next semester period, hopefully the duration will be extended as two weeks are not enough for us to learn culture there, “said Aqilah.

During the KKN organized by UNAIR, they did not only follow the program in Kemloko, but also Rumah Bahasa, Surabaya.For two months at Rumah Bahasa, they taught English.

The University of Brunei Darussalam requires students to take the Community Outreach Program for one semester as part of community service.Asian countries became their destinations, one of them is Indonesia.

“This KKN is part of an integrated FIB group.We work with various agencies to implement KKN for foreign students.This is also an effort to strengthen the position of FIB with the target villages, “said Puji Karyanto, SS, M.Hum Vice Dean I FIB UNAIR.(*)
