UNAIR NEWS –Beautiful park, comfortable pedestrian, and clean urban area is a glimpse of City of Surabaya.For this reason, as part of their responsibility to maintain and care for the city of Surabaya, BEM through Ministry of Community Service held the first Urban Area Cleaning Movement (Gaung) in Sidotopo Jaya on Sunday, September 2.
Ahmad Halomoan Harahap as the chief executive of activity explained that the urban community does not have great concern about their environment so rubbish piled up in some places.
“Through Gaung event we reminded the community a little about the importance of cleanliness.Because if their environment is cleaner, it will improve their health, ” explained Ahmad.
The activity was started by gathering at BEM UNAIR Secretariat at 5 am.Then, they went together to the location of event.The committee andvolunteers thenight before were urged to bring cleaning tools such as brooms, garbage scoop, and dustpan (cikrak in Javanese).
Not only cleaning the environment, in this activity the committee and volunteers also planted green plants on site.At least 40 plants were planted.
The residents™ enthusiasm was quite good, some residents even plant the crop and clean up their environment with students.
In the future, Ahmad, a student from Medan explained, Gaung will be held at Mangrove Wonorejo Park, Rungkut.It will invite children to clean the environment and plant mangroves on October 7th.
“On the 7th, we will invite the children of the communities, giving them education about the importance of protecting the beach, especially mangroves.So there is no abrasion, “he explained.
Ahmad hoped that not only students and government will move to improve urban planning and hygiene, but citizens also increasingly eager to participate in maintaining environmental cleanliness.So it will make it easier for Surabaya to increase its health and comfort.
