The lecturer and researcher in the field of stem cell has made achievements at global level. Besides having studied and attended workshops overseas, he has made a lot of publications in international journals. Moreover, the man, who is active in some Asia Pacific associations, has also been a reviewer in some journals, either in Indonesia or abroad such as British Journal of Urology International (BJUI), Urologia Internasionalis Journal (Swiss), SQU Med Oman Journal (Oman), BMC Journal (England), and many others.
Being asked about the roles of stem cells for scientific development in medical and health science, Lukman said that the method and the technology are not only for medication. Furthermore, stem cells can be used as prevention, for example to prevent negative effects from spreading and becoming more severe during patient檚 medication or treatment.
Indonesia, and UNAIR, have good resources to keep developing stem cells. There is adequate facility. If there is an incomplete facility, the access to complete it is easy. 淩egarding the human resources, I檓 sure we have them, he stated. Moreover, the technology is always requested. There are a lot of patients expecting the treatments.
The Indonesian government is currently supporting the establishment of National Stem Cell Committee. The committee has made a policy which stated that Indonesia is open to stem cell applications as a part of help tourism. National Stem Cell Committee has given opportunities for stem cell application regarding applications of stem cells in clinics which acquired the permit.
Stem cells have 榤agical sense characteristically. They are undifferentiated cells, self-renewal, able to be differentiated more than one kind of cell (multipotent/pluripotent). Those characteristics make them excellent. 淭he recovery process happens because normal cells divided or known as healing process. This process can be accelerated by stem cells, stated Lukman. (*)
