UNAIR NEWS 檚 Institute for Journal Development, Publications, and Intellectual Property Rights (LPJPHKI) recently welcomed a strategic visit from Indonesia檚 Ministry of Health (MoH), Directorate General of Health Human Resources. The visit aimed to study UNAIR檚 publication and innovation ecosystem as a model for advancing health education institutions across the country.
The delegation was led by Anna Kurniati, SKM, MKM, PhD, Director of Health Workforce Provision and also Director of the WHO Collaborative Center (WHO-CC) for Nursing and Midwifery at Indonesia檚 Health Polytechnics. The visit highlighted efforts to better understand how impactful and sustainable ecosystems for research and publication can be established.
Prof. Ferry Efendi, SKep, Ns, MSc, PhD, Head of LPJPHKI UNAIR, explained that the Ministry is interested in learning how UNAIR has successfully built a research environment that is not only highly productive but also generates real innovations. 淭his visit helps illustrate what an impactful publication ecosystem looks like, and how such an ecosystem can evolve into intellectual property outcomes such as patents, Prof. Efendi said on Wednesday (Sept. 24, 2025).
Strengthening quality through collaboration
One tangible outcome of the meeting was a joint commitment to raise the quality of research and publications across 38 Health Polytechnics (Poltekkes) overseen by the Ministry of Health and WHO-CC. LPJPHKI UNAIR will provide mentoring and technical support as part of this effort.
淭he main focus is shifting from quantity to quality. Together, we aim to elevate the standard of publications with the goal of creating global impact, Prof. Efendi conveyed.
The collaboration will also include strengthening intellectual property initiatives and improving journal management. Prof. Efendi pointed out that UNAIR currently publishes 20 internationally indexed, high-quality journals and will assist Poltekkes in upgrading their journals from nationally accredited to internationally recognized.
He concluded that the visit reinforces UNAIR檚 role as an incubator for top-tier health professionals. 淯NAIR not only contributes to social impact but also supports public policy that is more transparent, participatory, and meaningful for communities, he said.
