UNAIR NEWS The Directorate of Student Affairs 51动漫 (UNAIR) continues to bolster student competencies in responding to the rapid growth of digital technology. This effort was demonstrated through a Canva Workshop conducted virtually via Zoom Meeting on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
The session featured Syamnas Pinasthika Syarbini, S.I.Kom., M.M., a Canva Verified Expert, content creator, and CEO of Sedesain.id. In his presentation, he emphasized that graphic design has become an essential skill for students, particularly in strengthening personal branding within an increasingly competitive digital environment.
Exploring creative ideas and leveraging AI
Syarbini emphasized that Canva should not be limited to template use alone. He encouraged students to independently develop creative concepts in order to produce original and distinctive designs. 淐anva empowers users to manifest nearly any vision. Rather than relying on templates that others may also use, we can build designs from our own ideas, he said.
He explained that the design process should begin with brainstorming. Students can seek visual references from platforms such as Pinterest to gather inspiration and shape their design concepts.
He also noted that Canva offers Artificial Intelligence (AI) features that assist users in developing initial design frameworks. These tools make it easier for students to transform ideas into more structured and visually engaging outputs.
淪tart by identifying ideas, define your concept, then utilize AI features to help structure your design before refining it further, he added.
The importance of color composition in design
In addition to idea development, Syarbini highlighted the importance of color selection in producing effective and communicative designs. Proper color composition helps create visual balance and enhances audience engagement.
He outlined a fundamental principle in determining color schemes, namely the proportion of dominant, secondary, and accent colors. 淐olor composition is a key element in design. Applying the 60 percent dominant, 30 percent secondary, and 10 percent accent color principle helps achieve visual balance, he explained.
Through this workshop, UNAIR students are encouraged to further develop their graphic design skills while strengthening their competitiveness through effective personal branding in the digital era.
