UNAIR NEWS “ The Professional Veterinary Medicine Education Program (PPDH) at the Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Natural Sciences (FIKKIA) (UNAIR) recently hosted a public lecture. The event, titled “Professionalism, Legislation, and Veterinary Ethics,” featured the Chairman of the Indonesian Veterinary Association (PB PDHI) as the keynote speaker. The lecture was held on Tuesday (March 11, 2025) at the Mojo Campus Auditorium.
Essential skills for veterinarians
Dr. Muhammad Munawwaroh, drh., M.M., Chairman of PB PDHI, stressed that veterinarians must uphold both ethical and professional standards. These principles are fundamental to delivering high-quality and responsible veterinary care. As key figures in animal healthcare, veterinarians must develop expertise in disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
“Diagnosis is the most essential skill, as it sets veterinarians apart. Proper treatment is only possible when an accurate diagnosis is established,” he explained.
A precise diagnosis allows for the early detection of illnesses. This process extends beyond simple palpation, incorporating laboratory assessments such as hematology, urinalysis, radiology, and other diagnostic tests.
Dr. Munawwaroh also emphasized that ethics serve as a professional agreement defining acceptable and unacceptable conduct in veterinary practice. The Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) is a foundational concept that ensures veterinarians maintain high professional standards. A strong relationship between veterinarians, clients, and patients is vital to safeguarding animal welfare and delivering optimal medical care.
“Veterinarians are responsible not only for their patients but also for pet owners and the larger community. A deep understanding of professional ethical guidelines is, therefore, indispensable,” he added.

Veterinary Practice Licenses (SIP) importance
A Veterinary Practice License (SIP) is a crucial credential that verifies a veterinarian’s qualifications to practice. It also reflects their competence in providing animal healthcare services.
“An SIP is more than just an administrative requirement; it serves as legal validation and an indicator of a veterinarian™s expertise in animal healthcare,” said Dr. Munawwaroh, a doctoral graduate of the Veterinary Science Program at UNAIR™s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH).
He encouraged students to commit to continuous learning and stay updated with the latest developments in veterinary medicine. The field constantly evolves with advancements in medical techniques and technology. Furthermore, he urged future veterinarians to collaborate with academics to enhance research publications based on field experience.
“Expanding professional expertise is key to elevating veterinary standards. Education does not end at university”never stop learning,” he concluded.
