Five years of leadership: UNAIR advances as inclusive and globally competitive institution

UNAIR NEWS Prof. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto drh DEA has concluded his term as Vice Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs at with a legacy marked by notable progress. Under his guidance, UNAIR strengthened its student and alumni ecosystem, affirming its identity as a university that not only excels academically but also actively addresses social issues, promotes global education, and fosters strong graduate character.

Between 2019 and 2024, UNAIR students earned 1,419 accolades311 international, 1,038 national, and 70 regional. These accomplishments secured UNAIR檚 position among the top 15 state universities recognized for student excellence. The results reflect the university檚 commitment to cultivating student potential through structured development and interdepartmental collaboration.

UNAIR檚 strong emphasis on educational inclusivity was acknowledged globally, as it ranked first in the world in the Times Higher Education檚 SDG 1 (No Poverty) indicator. Each year, the university provides scholarships to over 11,000 students, including those from underdeveloped regions, Papua, and developing countries. Additionally, the Airlangga Development Scholarship attracts international students, supporting UNAIR檚 mission to expand equitable access to higher education worldwide.

Character education rooted in UNAIR檚 core values擴NAIR HEBAT (Humble, Honest, Excellent, Brave, Agile, Transcendent)攊s embedded across all academic programs, from foundational courses to interprofessional education. The Airlangga Assessment Center helps identify students interests and strengths early in their studies. Through the Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship, and Alumni (DPKKA), students receive tailored guidance and access to national and international certifications, with more than 1,700 students certified to date.

UNAIR檚 international rankings have surged, now placing 308th globally and 52nd in Asia in the QS World University Rankings攗p from beyond 600 a decade ago. Its employer reputation ranks second nationally and in the top 80 globally, underscoring the strong demand for UNAIR graduates in the workforce. More than 8,000 students have participated in the national MBKM (Freedom to Learn) initiative, enhancing experiential learning and professional preparedness.

Prof. Lukiswanto attributes these achievements to UNAIR檚 consistent policy framework and performance-oriented culture. 淯NAIR is guided by the SMART University model, with a broad vision of Sustainable Education for All, he said. He added that the university檚 internal quality systems have outpaced national standards, aligning instead with global benchmarks like ISO and the Malcolm Baldrige criteria.
