LIPJPHKI and AUP UNAIR provide IPR application service

UNAIR NEWS “ The Institute for Innovation, Journal Development, Publishing, and Intellectual Property Rights (LIPJPHKI) of and Airlangga University Press (AUP) provide a platform for the academic community and the public to learn the steps involved in managing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The HKI Festival 2024 workshop is held on Thursday, Feb 29, 2024.Ìý

The workshop, focusing on “IPR, Trademarks, and Product Design,” was held on the 5th Floor, Sriwijaya Room, ASEEC Tower, Dharmawangsa Dharmawangsa B Campus. Prof Dr. H. Hery Purnobasuki MSi PhD, the chairman of LIPJPHKI UNAIR, opened the event.

In his remarks, Prof Hery conveyed that the 2024 IPR Festival is an initiative to introduce intellectual property to both the public and the academic community. He pointed out that many people have not yet managed their patents.

“We organize activities like this for a reason. Many people, including professors, are unaware of what to do with their products,” he said.

Prof Hery explained that their lack of awareness of the need to patent their work led LIPJPHKI to organize the IPR Festival. He elaborated that the event consists of two schemes: workshops and faculty exhibition. He added that the workshops held during the event focus on trademarks and design.

“Through the HKI Festival 2024, participants will receive workshop materials on trademarks and design. They can also visit the faculty stands or the LIPJPHKI stand. At our stand, attendees can inquire about which creations are eligible for patents,” he explained.

Prof Hery further stated that LIPJPHKI assists in managing the intellectual property of the academic community at UNAIR. He mentioned that there are 14 journals indexed in Scopus.

“Gradually, UNAIR now has 14 journals indexed in Scopus, whereas two years ago, there were only four. Consequently, there are around 2,500-3,000 papers per year,” he elaborated.

In addition to journals, LIPJPHKI also manages copyright for books. However, Prof Hery noted that patent management is still limited.

“We still face challenges regarding book copyright management because there are not many UNAIR professors who write books. Nevertheless, we will continue to make efforts,” he concluded.
