Second Winner of STHM Military Moot Court Competition Successfully Won by KPS FH UNAIR Delegation

FH UNAIR Moot Court Community (KPS) delegation made another achievement at the national level. They won second place in the military moot court competition held by the Military Law College (STHM), under the auspices of the Directorate of Army Law (Ditkumad). To learn more about her story, the PR team interviewed two members of the delegation: Zahra Syiva Anjany and Fredrick Binsar Gamaliel Manurung.

Zahra said this was the first time STHM held a military moot court competition. KPS FH UNAIR participation was a challenge because 25 universities were joining this competition, which is a vast number.

“This victory is the result of the hard work of the delegation members. The impression was, of course, proud because KPS FH UNAIR managed to win the first military moot court competition held by STHM Ditkumad,” said Zahra, an official from the delegation team.

The dynamics of preparing the teams for this competition are very different, as the teams have to study military laws. Fred said that military criminal law and criminal procedural law differed significantly from the law that applied to civilians. This was coupled with the short preparation time for the competition, which was only three weeks to compile trial files and practice sessions. Fred added that the preparation time for a moot court competition is usually around six months.

“Fortunately, we don’t need to compile as many files as the NMCC because they have already been given a BAP (Inspection Minutes). However, there is still much to be learned. They started from the army’s philosophy to how the army is organized. We studied the hierarchy of command in the army from the TNI Headquarters to the Koramil level. They even have their police and prosecutors, namely the Military Police and Military Auditors,” said the 2021 batch student.

Fred and Zahra then thanked those who supported the KPS FH UNAIR delegation process to win second place. Starting from prospective judges from the Surabaya Military Court III-12, KPS FH UNAIR colleagues, to support from the faculty. Hopefully, they will give it so that FH UNAIR’s achievements in competition can continue in the following year.
