UNAIR NEWS (UNAIR), through its Islamic Economics Student Association (HIMA EKIS), hosted the 8th Alumni Sharing Session online on Saturday (Sept. 27, 2025). The guest speaker was Dr. Namira Samir, a 2012 Islamic Economics graduate who now works as a Social Policy Officer at UNICEF. Dr. Samir offered advice on writing a strong CV and preparing for job interviews in an interactive session on Zoom.
Building a strong CV
Dr. Samir opened by stressing that a CV is more than a timeline of experiences攊t should highlight growth, skills, and achievements. She advised students to keep it concise but impactful, with clear evidence of accomplishments and commitment.
淎 CV has to match the employer you檙e targeting. Each time you apply, adjust it to their needs, she said. She noted that listing generic experience isn檛 enough. Tailoring a CV to the job field shows recruiters that an applicant檚 skills align with what the organization is looking for.
Interview preparation
After discussing CVs, Dr. Samir turned to interview strategies, calling interviews a decisive stage in the hiring process. She urged students to research thoroughly before stepping into the room.
淎pplicants should know the vision, mission, and latest updates about the institution. That makes your answers more relevant and convincing, she said. She also recommended preparing clear responses to basic questions such as 榃hy should we hire you? to demonstrate value and fit.
Career readiness
Wrapping up the session, Dr. Samir reminded students that they don檛 need formal job experience to stand out. Campus activities can help build a strong CV and boost career prospects.
淵ou don檛 have to wait for a first job to craft a solid CV. Roles in student organizations, committees, or volunteer projects all count, she said. She also highlighted the importance of networking. 淢aintain good relationships with everyone. You never know who might open the door to your dream job.
Participants engaged actively in the Q&A, showing strong enthusiasm throughout the program. Beyond technical advice, the session encouraged students to keep building skills and connections. HIMA EKIS hopes the Alumni Sharing Series will continue to inspire UNAIR students as they prepare for their careers.
