UNAIR NEWS (UNAIR) consistently produces alumni who make an impact across the country, including in Gresik. Nur Chakim SKep Ners, a familiar name among health workers, has become a driving force for change in various strategic organizations.
Chakim currently serves as Chair of Persatuan Perawat Nasional Indonesia (PPNI) Gresik, Secretary 3 of PCNU Health Institutions Gresik, and Head of Secretariat of the Gresik AIDS Management Commission (KPA). His journey so far demonstrates how the values instilled during university can bring benefits to the surrounding community.
According to Chakim, impactful alumni are those who can spread benefits to others. 淚n my personal view, being impactful means being able to provide benefits to people around us and to everyone. These benefits must be truly positive and can be well developed by the surrounding community, Chakim said.
Strong dedication
Chakim emphasized that the main focus of a professional organization is not what it can provide for its members, but rather the opposite. 淓ven though we are a professional organization, its impact can also serve community needs. For example, in community service activities, disaster response, and other areas, Chakim said.
One of the areas that draws the most attention and concern from Chakim is HIV-AIDS management in Gresik. His strong dedication is reflected in his involvement with KPA. For him, the biggest challenge is not just the virus itself, but the stigma surrounding it.
淭he trigger for our continued focus on KPA is the stigma toward people living with HIV. In society, when someone is diagnosed with HIV, the first reaction is often exclusion or negative perception. In fact, when we study transmission, treatment, and therapy, HIV is not as severe as the stigma presented by society, Chakim said.
Expand outreach
In line with Gresik Regency檚 target to achieve zero new infections by 2030, Chakim and his team at KPA continue to move forward with a collaborative strategy. He emphasized the importance of all parties involvement. 淲e continuously conduct public education and preventive promotion. We also monitor whether patients are willing to take their medication, can manage their condition, and can continue to survive, Chakim said.
Not limited to general professional duties, Nur Chakim檚 role also extends as Secretary 3 of the PCNU Health Institutions (LKNU) in Gresik Regency. In this position, he bridges religious values with relevant health programs.
淥ur role at LKNU focuses more on providing benefits related to community health needs, especially for Nahdliyin residents. At the PC level, we coordinate with LKNU at the MWC subdistrict level. This creates smooth collaboration during activities, ensuring the programs impact on community health needs can be fulfilled effectively, Chakim said.
