UNAIR NEWS Ajeng Arifianti, a History student from the Faculty of Humanities (FIB) (UNAIR), successfully secured a spot in the Certified Internship and Independent Study Program (Magang dan Studi Independen Bersertifikat or MSIB). She interned as a curatorial assistant at Museum Sandi. Arifianti credited her experience in organizational and committee activities as one of the key factors in her successful selection for the MSIB program.
淥ne of the moments that stood out for me was during the initial stages of the application process. After being shortlisted, all selected students were gathered in a WhatsApp group and given only 10 minutes to complete a task. My device malfunctioned at that moment, and I couldn檛 help but cry. Thankfully, the division mentor later announced that I had passed the document review stage and advanced to the offering process, she shared.
Responsibilities as Curatorial Assistant
Arifianti recounted her internship experience, where her background as a History student allowed her to delve into museum collection analysis. Her responsibilities included studying cipher machines from Hagelin Crypto, empowering the museum檚 collection, researching prominent figures in cryptography, and reorganizing the museum檚 exhibition spaces. 淔or the museum檚 reorganization task, I was responsible for determining the content and descriptions of the collections to be displayed. For example, I worked on studies related to espionage during the Japanese occupation era, she explained.
During her internship, Arifianti acknowledged gaining valuable insights into the museum industry. Her experience was not limited to collection analysis but also extended to guiding and assisting visitors and participating in Museum Sandi檚 annual events.
淚n the curatorial assistant division, there were five interns from diverse educational backgrounds and universities. These activities certainly enriched my knowledge about museum work and provided a clearer perspective on what to expect after graduation, she added.
Arifianti found the curatorial experience immensely beneficial and expressed hope for continuous improvement and innovation in the MSIB program. She emphasized the significance of the program, noting that it offers students extraordinary benefits during their internships.
