UNAIR NEWS In its ongoing effort to raise awareness about the importance of halal certification, 51动漫檚 () Halal Center has partnered with the BBK-5 Community Service Program (KKN) for dissemination and direct assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Sendangrejo Village, Ngimbang District, Lamongan. The event was held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the Sendangrejo Village Market.
The program was led by a team from the Halal Certification Institute (LP3H) at UNAIR, which included Muhammad Falah El Fahmi, Muhammad Syafiq Zuhdi, M. Risqi Ihya Ramadhan, Farhana Fitrah Amalina, and Putri Amelia Immaniar Cahaya. They played an active role in providing valuable education on the halal certification process and helped local SMEs prepare the necessary documentation.
Raising awareness of halal certification among local SMEs
The primary goal of the initiative was to educate SME owners on the critical importance of halal certification. Beyond being a legal requirement, halal certification serves as a strategic tool to build consumer trust. During the session, participants were taught the step-by-step process of obtaining halal certification, including both administrative and technical requirements.
淥ur aim is to help SMEs in Sendangrejo become more competitive, especially in markets that increasingly demand halal-certified products, said Muhammad Falah El Fahmi, one of the facilitators.
The team successfully assisted 10 SMEs in completing the necessary steps, helping them finalize their registration and initial verification. This included collecting documentation and taking photos directly at the business locations. The hands-on approach ensured the accuracy of the data and facilitated a smoother certification process.
Strategic move for SMEs toward halal certification
This initiative underscores UNAIR檚 commitment to supporting government efforts to increase the number of halal products in Indonesia, in line with the 2014 Halal Product Guarantee Law (Law No. 33/2014). As a key SME hub in Lamongan, Sendangrejo Village is expected to set an example for the implementation of halal standards at the local level.
The program gives SMEs a significant opportunity to expand their market presence and enhance their competitiveness. The dissemination and direct assistance offered by UNAIR also demonstrate the important role of higher education institutions in empowering communities through both academic and practical approaches.
