UNAIR NEWS Economic growth remains a key pillar of national progress, and universities play an essential role in supporting that effort. Reflecting this responsibility, (UNAIR) reaffirmed its commitment to research and community engagement in sustainable development by hosting a public lecture.

The lecture, titled 淚ndonesia Adil dan Beradab melalui Pembangunan Nasional (淎 Just and Civilized Indonesia through National Development), featured Indonesia檚 Minister of Public Works, Ir. Dody Hanggodo, MPE. The event took place on Friday (November 14, 2025) at the Garuda Mukti Hall, located on the fifth floor of UNAIR檚 Management Building at the MERR-C Campus. UNAIR Rector Prof. Mohammad Madyan, SE, MSi, MFin, extended a warm welcome to the Minister.

Prof. Madyan noted that the lecture檚 theme echoes a national call to pursue economic growth that remains aligned with environmental protection and social equity. He emphasized that sustainable development must rest on three core pillars: an inclusive and competitive economy, a fair and prosperous society, and a protected and sustainable environment.

He stressed that infrastructure development must be guided by sustainability principles. 淓very economic policy should aim to deliver prosperity without widening social disparities or harming natural resources, he said.

Prof. Madyan also underscored the importance of strong collaboration between academic institutions and government agencies. Such cooperation, he explained, is necessary to build a human development ecosystem rooted in health, education, integrity, and readiness to navigate global challenges.

Prof. Madyan further highlighted UNAIR檚 responsibility to cultivate leaders who recognize the need to balance economic innovation with social responsibility and environmental stewardship. 淥ur commitment is to ensure that the progress we pursue today does not undermine the well-being of future generations, he stated.

The Faculty of Economics and Business professor added that through research, community outreach, and character-building education, UNAIR strives to produce scholars and civic leaders who are knowledgeable, ethical, and environmentally conscious, individuals capable of aligning technological advancement with social justice and environmental care.

He expressed hope that the public lecture would provide students with valuable insight into policy directions shared by the Minister of Public Works, while strengthening their role in advancing Indonesia檚 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
