UNAIR NEWS Students of the Faculty of Medicine, 51动漫 (), led by Al Davi Muhammad Azriel Firdaus, along with team members Laras Artanti Nabilah and Zahrani Dwi Aryanti, secured 2nd place in the Scientific Paper Competition at the national Indonesian Medical Students Training and Competition (IMSTC) 2026. The team achieved this accomplishment in the final round held on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
The IMSTC 2026 competition was organized by the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya, under the theme SUNRISE: 淪trengthening Unity and Nurturing Resilience Through Health Innovation for Sustainable Empowerment. The competition consisted of five categories: Scientific Paper, Scientific Poster, Public Poster, Videography, and Photography. The event was participated in by medical students from various universities across Indonesia.
Initial participation
Zahrani Dwi Aryanti, one of the team members, shared their experience in participating in the competition. 淭he three of us are members of AMSA-UNAIR and first learned about the IMSTC competition through a socialization session. We were interested because the competition was held at the national level and offered many categories to choose from. Since we already knew each other and had collaborated in several teams before, we decided to register by submitting a systematic review paper. At first, we were hesitant because there were only three of us and we were all from the class of 2025, but thankfully we advanced to the final round, she said.
Preparation for the final
Aryanti also explained the team檚 preparation ahead of the final round. 淔or the final, we prepared our presentation and question-and-answer session as thoroughly as possible. AMSA-UNAIR also has a training program for competition delegates, so we were able to practice and prepare ourselves better. During the competition, we tried to perform our best in front of the judges from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya. Fortunately, we managed to secure second place among ten experienced finalists, she said.
However, the achievement did not come without challenges. Aryanti added, 淲e faced several obstacles, especially in terms of time and experience. The submission deadline was only one to two weeks, so we could only conduct secondary research and decided to choose a systematic review as our topic. None of the three of us had previously written a systematic review, so we learned independently, asked senior students for guidance, and read various journals as references to complete the paper.
Memorable experience
Aside from the competition, IMSTC also provided various engaging experiences for the participants. Aryanti added, 淭he event schedule did not only focus on the competition, but also included various entertaining and beneficial activities such as talk shows, workshops, and social hours. All of these activities were enjoyable and provided additional insights. We felt happy and grateful for the opportunity to participate in IMSTC. The event was more than just a competition and became a memorable first experience that we will always remember. We also learned many things that will help us prepare for future competitions.
