UNAIRNEWS –Recalling the journey during her study, Dr.Noorce Christiani Berek, S.KM., M.Kes unable to stop her tears.She had a lot of experiences during her process of obtaining her doctoral degree.The graduate with 3.79 GPA had to have great patience during her study.Years apart from her husband and children in Kupang (NTT).Noorce recalled the heaviest moment when she had to get through nine seminars and exams to complete the study.
“I felt like going back to Kupang.I was ready to leave my husband and children in Kupang.This was a struggle for a mother like me, ” she said.
When she had a qualifying exam, her dissertation examiner said that her research plan could not be continued or could be continued but with considerable corrections.
“I could not think anymore and felt bored with all the activities I have been doing.I left my dissertation proposal for seven months.It is very difficult to move on and prepare for the next seminar and exam proposal, “said the best graduate of Health Sciences Faculty of Public Health (FKM) UNAIR.
While she was in a state of despair, supports from her family and friends were effective to make her continue the struggle.“I was always in a community, my friends who were also completing the doctoral degree, so we can discuss andshareeach other,”she added.
She claimed to have no ‘secret’ in learning, only focusing on the ultimate goal.In her dissertation, Noorce studied issues surrounding unsafe habit or behavior at work, especially of construction workers.In that study, she designed a precautionary model to unsafe behavior.A number of previous studies indicated this internal factor plays an important role in shaping one’s actions or behavior.(*)
