UNAIR NEWSÌý“ÌýTo face the end of 2019, Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG) 51¶¯Âþ through FKG Dean R.ÌýÌýexplained theÌýoutlookÌýor foresight of FKG UNAIR’s plan for 2020. One of the plans and breakthroughs that will be taken in theÌýoutlookÌýis the use ofÌýartificial intelligenceÌý(Al) andÌýdigital dentistryÌýinÌýmedical and research.
In line with the spirit ofÌýsustainable development goals inÌý2030, drg.ÌýDarmawan considered that modern dentists today cannot only understand medical field without learning the technology as an implementation ofÌýmodern dentistry.ÌýThe quality improvement is certainly in line with various international accreditations and certifications FKG UNAIR has achieved, such as AUN-QA, AIMS, ASIIN, and so forth.
“We are improving the use of technology inÌýmedical and researchÌýfor two reasons.ÌýFirst, of course, to further improve our quality andÌýoutputÌýin the midst of the industrial revolution 4.0.ÌýAI technology itself is applied toÌýdental education,Ìýdental public health, clinical practice, and various other aspects.ÌýMost of this technology has been applied by our graduates, “he said.
“Secondly, we see that dental health problems in Indonesia are still very high. Take for example the problem of dental caries, until 2019 the number did not go down, even though each year the graduates of dentistry are increasing. For this reason, we use AI technology to improve the handling of problems, “added drg. Darmawan.
Meanwhile, the use ofÌýbigÌýdata isÌýintended forÌýdigital dentistryÌýwhich contains all medical information such as therapeutic plans, medical data and records, diagnoses, and so on.ÌýBy 2020, FKG UNAIR can participate in the provision ofÌýworld big data destistryÌýgloballyÌýinterlinkedÌýand traced maximally.
The OutlookÌýwas announced following excellent performance of FKG UNAIR in 2019. One of them was seen in the achievements obtained in international journal publications.ÌýAs of October 2019, 104 journal papers were successfully indexed by Scopus.ÌýIt exceeds expectations because initially FKG was only targeted to produce 26 international publications by 2019. Furthermore, there are also international cooperation andÌýsister schoolÌýprogramsÌýwith several countries such as South Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Thailand, to realize goals of 2020 FKG outlook.
“To realize thisÌýoutlook, we are working with many parties, including alumni, the government, andÌýinternational researchers.ÌýIn fact, this year we will co-host 8th Hiroshima Conference in Surabaya.ÌýWe hope that this collaboration will have a significant impact on the quality of our human resources, “he concluded.Ìý(*)
