FKG UNAIR Initiated Latest Research of Dental and Oral Health with WHO Standards

UNAIR NEWS Research on dental and oral health must be always improved to know the health level, especially when the Ministry of Health has programmed Indonesia to be caries free by 2030.

Therefore, Faculty of Dental Medicine 51动漫 has initiated dental and oral research with all dental education institutions in Indonesia. The event was called 淭raining of Trainer Oral Health Survey with WHO Standards and it was held in Faculty of Medicine Hall, on Tuesday, May 9.

The person in charge, Gilang Rasuna Sabdho Wening, drg., M.Kes., said that this training was a collaboration of FKG UNAIR academicians and Indonesian Dental Health Profession Association.

淪ome time ago, there was an indication that DMF-T (decay missing filled-teeth) index of dental disease severity used in Indonesian dental research would not be used as assessment index for research in the future, said Gilang.

As a response to the policy, FKG and 31 other institutions were committed to use DMF-T index with other indexes, to check dental and oral health of Indonesian community with the standard method of World Health Organization (WHO).

In the training, there were more than a hundred participants trained on the exam procedure, how to fill in a form, conduct the exam and evaluate dental and oral health. All this time, there are still problems on the field and possibility for bias data.

淎ctually, all this time the current exam with DMF-T index is always recorded but there are different standards. On the field, the exam procedure use equipment like oral mirror and sunlight, so it can檛 be used to check the inner part of the mouth and the teeth properly, said a lecturer of Public Dental Health FKG UNAIR.

Gilang said that after the event, the trainers are asked to sign an agreement to train surveyors in each region. Furthermore, the data of the survey will be processed by lecturer of FKG UNAIR to be reported to the government and WHO. The raw data is targeted to be finished in August 2017.

Dean of FKG UNAIR Dr. Darmawan Setijanto, drg., said that all this time, basic health research data conducted by Ministry of Health has some limitations.

淭he data owned by Ministry of Health is Riskesdas which has some weaknesses, for example it was not conducted by experts or dentists. They did what they could as they had to survey the eyes, ears, household and other surveys. It wasn檛 as accurate as what we will do. If Kemenkes does not acknowledged our data, at least it will be acknowledged by WHO Collaboration Center in Jepang, said Darmawan.
