UNAIR NEWS“ Group Two of field work practice (PKL) of Transfer students Faculty of Public Health (FKM) optimized the role of posyandu in improving the poor health of children under five in Sidotopo Village, Semampir Sub-district, Surabaya.Based on questionnaires to 44 respondents who have toddlers, there are only 11.4 percent who give exclusive breastfeeding.
“When based on Minister Decree (Government Regulation, ed) No. 33 of 2012, exclusive breastfeeding coverage must reach one hundred percent,” said one team member.“Therefore, we chose the region to promote the First Thousand Day of Life (1.000 HPK) Golden Period by creating a Posyandu for Women with Pregnancy and Galaxy X program,” she added.
The low level of exclusive breastfeeding by the residents is due to several factors such as culture, low level of knowledge, until the work of the mothers.
Therefore, the exclusive breastfeeding counseling team provided health knowledge such as the definition, benefits, content, type of exclusive breastfeeding, and tips on successful exclusive breastfeeding.
“In addition, we provided training on how to care for breast so there is always abundant milk.So, exclusive breastfeeding can work well, “she said.
Posyandu from FKM UNAIR team was also specifically aimed at pregnant women, especially to know and control its development because, generally, the mother and child™s health monitoring program is done in Posyandu for Babies.
“Actually there is a special program, the class of pregnant women, from the Health Agency.However, it is only conducted three times in a year and in turns for every RW (community unit), ” she said.

With the program of FKM UNAIR team, the health condition of pregnant mothers every month is monitored.Furthermore, maternal mortality can be suppressed, including infant mortality rate through knowledge of the First Thousand Day of Life program.
“All pregnant women are at risk.Therefore, thorough and routine monitoring should be done to ensure the condition of the mother and the fetus, “explained Nurul as midwife coordinator in Puskesmas Sidotopo during her remarks to posyandu participants in RW 11 Sidotopo.
Activities at Hall RW 11, Sidotopo Sekolahan Gang 4, Wednesday morning, January 31 targeted all the pregnant women there.Pregnant women went through five tables, registration;measurement of body weight, height, arm circumference, and blood pressure;recording in KIA books;consultation;as well as physical examination.
“Hopefully it can be held regularly.It will be greatifwe can check here because it™s closer to home.No need to queue for long.It™s free as well, “said Hanifah, one of the posyandu participants.
The 35-day PKL also focus on intervention efforts on non-communicable diseases.For example, diabetes which its prevalence rate rises each year.There is free health examination services and diabetes gymnastics.Also, the intervention in cases of diarrhea for babies due to poor quality of environmental sanitation.(*)
