UNAIR NEWS A master program student of Biology Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) UNAIR M. Hamzah Solim grew hydroponics with students of MTs Amanatul Ummah Mojokerto, on Friday, October 7. They use the space around school on the second floor terrace which is no longer used.
Hydroponic growing method was chosen as the students wanted to grow plants without soil as the medium, but with water added with hydroponic fertilizer. It produces organic vegetables without pesticides.
“We educate our students to be independent in agriculture as well as apply their knowledge they get from the class, said M. Hamzah Solim.
The student from Medan also said that the activity is useful for students to be creative in using used bottles and optimizing their environments in the future.
“It檚 great to be able to grow water spinach for a month and harvest it with friends, said Ifa, one of the students of class 9D.
The activity is expected to improve students concern in recycling stuff and using less productive space. Furthermore, they can implement their knowledge they get in class. (*)
