UNAIR NEWS“ Similar to the previous years, some foreign students take parts in Community Service Program “ Learning Together with the Community (KKN-BBM) 51¶¯Âþ. For this 55th KKN BBM, there are 17 foreign students from Universitas Brunei Darussalam. They were sent to some villages in Nganjuk Regency.
Siti Nazirah,a student from Mathematics program from Universitas Brunei Darussalam shared her impression for taking part in KKN in Nganjuk Regency. At first she experienced culture shock when she arrived in the designated location. There were some problems such as language.
œHere we socialize with children, because the adult rarely to speak Indonesian, said Siti Nazirah who speaks Malay and English in her daily activities.
The sixth semester student said that she learned a lot about Indonesian social life and the culture. In KKN group, there are 10-14 people and two of them were from Brunei.
œWe share ideas on what we know. They tell us about Indonesia and we tell about Brunei, discussing politics, social and culture, she said.
Nana, her nickname, said that she felt happy when the children she taught responded well to her teachings.
œI tell the children that Math is not difficult. When what we do and teach is responded well, that is our happiness, she said.
Similar to Nana, Mohammad Atfi, who was also from Brunei shared her excitement when she interacted with children at local school where she conducted her KKN.
œWe taught in elementary school. Our programs are washing hands campaign, teaching English, guiding students for National Science Olympiad (OSN), and teaching them at home. They were very enthusiastic when they knew me from Brunei. Once, they fought over a map and showed Brunei™s location but some of them do not know where Brunei is, said Atfi.
Atfi also impressed with Indonesian various food. She was also impressed with the diversity in Indonesia. She told some food she likes. Futhermore, through KKN designed by UNAIR, she has planned to tell them to her friends in Brunei.
œI want to to tell my friends to join KKN like us. It is an amazing experience for me, said Atfi.
The students admitted that they got information on KKN BBM UNAIR from their seniors who have been in a similar activity. Universitas Brunei Darussalam is regularly sent its students to participate in Institute of Community Service, Education, Training and Development (LP4M) program. It is a way to share knowledge with students from different countries.
On Thursday, February 2, LP4M UNAIR visited KKN students in Tanjung Anom subdistrict, Nganjuk regency. The team of LP4Mheld a sharing session with the participants of KKN which has been started since January 16 and LP4M also talked with the foreign students from Brunei Darussalam.
