UNAIRNEWS Babysitting, educating, and raising children are only a few examples of a woman檚 duties. Many underestimate the tasks of a housewife, believing that it is easy. As a result, most people see that a woman檚 job is 榦nly taking care of her household matters.
Based on the phenomena, Women Study Center (PSW) was set in all Universities in Indonesia, including 51动漫. PSWUNAIR was founded by Prof. Dr. Emy Susanti, MA, a professor in Gender Sociology.
In 1990, Indonesia via the then ministry of women empowerment, sent as many as eight university academics, including Emy, to learn gender study and women empowerment in the Netherlands for four months.
After that, the ministry of women empowerment held a meeting with universities presidents. The meeting agreed that each university had to set up a women study center.
淚n the beginning, PSW was set up in state universities and famous private universities. The eight scholars sent at that time became the pioneers of PSW. So, UNAIR is one of pioneer universities to have gender studies in Indonesia, explained Emy.
Based on the Three Pillars of High Education, there are three reasons in forming PSW in Indonesia. Firstly, PSW was founded to fill in women study program which up to that time was still void. According to international regulation, eradication convention on violence towards women and children have been clarified. Countries which have signed the convention had to put the regulations into effect. Through PSW, when there was a country report on a woman case to the United Nations, they already had the data needed, main as well as secondary data.
Secondly, women issues have become worldwide issues, then they have to be incorporated into education curriculum. This way students will be familiar with women study.
淚n essence PSW is inter-discipliner. Women issues study can be taken from the perspective of law, medicine, social science, culture, even MIPA (Mathematics and Science), explained the graduate of Flinders University, Australia.
In terms of civil service, regional government needs academic study to make policies about gender. PSW aims to back up and supply recommendations to regional government.
Through time, PSW changed its name into Gender Study Center (PSG). The reason is, all genders need understanding, not just women.
Nowadays, PSG UNAIRholds coordinator of East Java PSG. In addition, in between 2000-2001, UNAIR was given trust to hold a research, the result of which was to become national policy, about the setting up of an institution to handle violence against women and children.
淲e recommended an institution. The institution is a synergy between governmentand non-government, and we would supply the mechanism. The concept was called P2TP2A or Integrated Protection Center, Protection for Women and Children. It was in Sidoarjo, the first one. Cases from all over Indonesia came there, until it was taken over by the government, explained Emy.
All this time, there have been lots of cases handled by P2TP2A. One of them and this one was very famous in 2015, was the murder of Angeline, an eight-year old girl in Bali. Yes, the case was handled by P2TP2A, which was the result of PSG UNAIR檚 hard work.
