Good Prospects, Dwi Chooses Japanese Linguistics

UNAIR NEWS – Dwi Anggoro Hadiutomo, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., has learned Japanese Lingusitics since he studied in Japanese Literature bachelor program in Padjajaran University, Bandung. He then continued his master degree in the same university. He earned his Ph.D in Linguistics from Rikkyo University, Tokyo.

Dwi Anggoro was interested in Japanese Linguistics as there are a lot of uniqueness in Japanese language. Not only different in structures, grammar and written forms used, but also in its cultural context as politeness in Japanese language is not only vertically (superiors to subordinates at work or elders to youngsters) but also horizontally (in or out of the group).

“The Japanese always involves thoughts and feelings in their patterns of expression and diction. That is what makes me interested, said the man born in Bandung 5 December 1973.

From his belief that all sciences , whatever they are, cannot be separated from grammar, in the future, this field of studies has great prospect to be studied continuously. Nowadays, linguistics often considered unimportant when it comes to a research.

“When viewed it more closely, linguistics is the main supporter of science. For example, a lawyer can win a case of a corruptor because he knows how to use language to make an alibi. An unpopular mayor can win in the election because he can use the language well in the campaign or the debate, “said the lecturer who concerns on structures and semantics of Japanese language.

In Japanese language grammar, there are thoughts and feeling of the speakers. In his opinion, this study is important in communicating or negotiating with Japanese, an important partner in science and technology development in the future.

In Unair, he is appointed as a team member of educational directorate to prepare the international education activity content. He also gives lecture, takes part in the community service and becomes the head of Japanese Literature department, Faculty of Humanities, 51动漫

After completing his doctoral study in 2015, he actively took part in community services with the other lecturers of Japanese literature department FIB UNAIR such as provide training for the nurses in Indonesia who will be the medical personnel in Japan and teach Japanese language and culture in Rumah Bahasa by Surabaya government.

淎fter learning the linguistics, I understand that all the sciences must be related with language, especially grammar, it is really influential to all sciences. Finally, I realized that linguistics is also important although is not directly felt. The system is experiment first, then there will be result to be applied, he said. (*)
