The festive atmosphere as well as the crowds benefits the students and local community to gain some profit. Yes, is in fact an instant business opportunity.
On the previous graduation days, including the March 2017 period, along the street from Faculty of Public Health to Airlangga Convention Center, the graduation day venue, there are any number of UNAIR students and local community spreading out their wares.
The things they sell are also various, from food and drinks, dolls, to real flowers like roses.
Karina, a student of Informatics System diploma program, has made use of graduation day event to vend twice since 2016. She chose to sell some snacks like fries in a neat plastic wrapping.
淭he reason is because there are already many who sell flowers. If selling food, the sales must be high, from the class of 2014 while laughing.
She vends with her partners who have the same intention to vend on a graduation day. Karina says, each person has a task to cook the food they want to sell. When they are selling, they also share duties.
淭here is one who waits, some others walk around to market the wares, Karina described.
The wares are sold in affordable prices range from Rp 2,500 to Rp 5,000 per item. The profit is not a little even though she does not want to mention the exact number.
Besides Karina, there is Oky, a Management student who sells flowers. Roses that she sells are the real ones. She offers two options of flower packets. They are a rose in a patterned plastic wrapping; and another one is a bouquet of roses.
Oky who has vended on a graduation day since 2016 admitted, the flowers she sells are supplied by a florist in some area in Surabaya city center. He supplies 50 roses for the first optional packet.
淲hich selling better is the one rose packet, she said.
This Management student from the class of 2014 sells the flowers for Rp 10,000 each, and Rp 50,000 a bouquet. From the flower sales, she gains profit of about Rp 150,000 for one day vending.
According to her experience in vending on a graduation day, she learns to determine the effective time to market the wares. 淚f I vend since morning, the waiting time is longer. It is better for me to come rather late because the crowds are not even there before ten, she said. (*)
