Health Tips from UNAIR Nutrition Lecturer

UNAIR NEWS “Ìý Women’s Dormitory (UNAIR) just held a healthy food discussion entitledÌýGood Diet Choices are The Best InvestmentÌýon Friday, March 22, 2019, at Astri Hall UNAIR, Campus C. The speaker was Stefani Widya Setyaningtyas, S.Gz., MPH, a Nutrition Science Lecturer.
Stefani said adolescents experienced inconsistent changes in diet.ÌýThey apply a dietary pattern which is based on the level of independence, new environmental adaptations, limited food choices, time availability, finance, and new social networks.
While the factors that influence diet are feeling of fullness and delicious, external (friends and media), as well as economic and health conditions.ÌýHealth factors in this case are very rare.ÌýEven if it is known, women have a desire to live healthier than men.
In addition to the perception ofÌýbody image, nutritional status in adolescents greatly influences degenerative diseases of aging men such as diabetes, cholesterol and coronary heart disease.
“So, since we were young, we should maintain our ideal weight as much as possible,” she said.
There are various kinds of diets that Stefani presented, for exampleÌýkategonic diet,Ìýflexitarian diet,ÌýMediterranean dietÌý,ÌýDASH dietÌý,Ìýintermitter diet.ÌýAll types of diets certainly have advantages and disadvantages.
For example, when applying aÌýcategonic dietÌýfor a long time.ÌýThis type of diet can reduce muscle mass and vitamin C deficiency and minerals that make the face look tired.ÌýIn choosing the type of diet, it depends on the condition of the calories each person needs.ÌýIf someone wants to do a light diet, you should not follow theÌýflexitarian diet.
“When you are on a diet, you should be accompanied by experts,” she added.
Stefani continued, body weight is an accumulation of all energy in the body.ÌýEnergy enters through food and exits through physical activity.
If the consumed food is more than the physical activity we did, it would have an impact on the body weight.ÌýHowever, if physical activity did more, the body would also be slim.
“So to follow a diet there are only 2 choices, between reducing consumption or increasing physical activity.ÌýDiets must be done consistently.ÌýIt will be useless if the diet is not followed consistently, ” she added.Ìý(*)
