UNAIR NEWS – The lack of knowledge from the villagers on new diseases and the development of health was the background of students held counseling of diphtheria and dengue fever on Wednesday, January 10.听They are the students who work in Community Service Program – Learning Together with the Community (KKN-BBM) in the Village Nglajang, Sugihwaras Subdistrict, Bojonegoro.
“The introduction to diphtheria was due to the current condition in the world, even the spread has entered Nganjuk,” said Devi Noaritasari, Nursing Education student that presented the material to the villagers.
The counseling was attended by local people, especially PKK women.听Villagers looked enthusiastic with the exposure by students.听Because many of them are not familiar with the type of diphtheria disease.
“This disease is a sudden infection caused byCorynebacterium diphtheriae听产补肠迟别谤颈补听.听Diphtheria is easily transmitted through air, saliva, and contaminated objects or food, “said the woman born in Ponorogo, October 11, 1996.
Devi said, the process of diphtheria infection took place through the respiratory tract, eyes, skin, ears, and vagina.听In addition, the attacking germs will be eradicated on heating 600C for 10 minutes.听However, the bacteria can stay for several weeks in ice, water, milk and dry mucus.
People should be aware if they have symptoms of diphtheria.听Like a sore throat, the heat ranges from 37.8 – 38.90C, red throat, grayish white mouth, and throat enlargement and there檚 also complications of airway obstruction, heart disease, bladder disease, kidney failure, to neurological disorders, 3-5% of them cause death.
“The most important thing for the infected is being isolated for about 2 weeks until the tests show negative results twice and the treatment given is complete.听While prevention measure can be done by diphtheria vaccination, ” she added.
In addition to diphtheria, the widespread disease in the wet season is dengue fever.听In the rainy season, Nglajang Village is no stranger to the presence of mosquitoes every night at homes or rice fields.听Previously, there was inspection and door to doorcounselling, on Sunday, January 7.听Evidently, there were mosquito larvae in the watertubs of some villagers.
“Inspection is done to know the larva and give little understanding to the community,” said Devi.
Tahiyatun, one of the residents of RT 2, said that the profession as farmers make them less concerned with the house’s hygiene.听Even the water used for bathing is not well maintained.
Devi hoped that with this counselling people will be more aware and diligently clean the watertubs and improve health through immunization.听This is to ensure the larvae not grow and develop and the community avoid the disease.
“We do not know the term, Mbak.听We are here far from the signal and limited.听This counselling is quite helpful for those who do not understand diphtheria, “said Puput, one of PKK members who is also a teacher of Early Childhood Education (PAUD).听(*)
