UNAIR NEWS –Faculty of Medicine (FK) 51¶¯Âþ (UNAIR) held the 61st Airlangga Webinar Conference Series (AWCS) oncomprehensive management of intracranial aneurysm.ÌýThe webinar was held on Saturday, February 27, 2021.Ìý
Three speakers were invited to the webinar, Prof. Tetsuyoshi Horiuchi, MD., PhD, (Prof. Tetsuyoshi) from Shinshu University School of Medicine, dr. Abrar Arham, Sp.BS (K) (dr. Abrar) from the National Brain Center Hospital Jakarta and dr. Nur Setiawan Suroto, Sp.BS (K) or dr. Nur from Faculty of Medicine UNAIR.
Dr. Nur explained about endovascular management of intracranial aneurysm in Surabaya. According to him, there are five techniques used in the treatment of endovascular intracranial aneurysms: the shaping microcatheter and looping microcatheter; multiple microcatheter technique; balloon remodeling technique; stent assisted coiling; and flow diversion.
“There are several technical challenges incoil embolizationfrom abrain aneurysm,”said dr. Nur.
This challenge is the collision ofcoil loopsin theparent artery.ÌýAnother technical challenge is the remaining or usedaneurysmpouchand continued communication with theparent vesseldueto loosecoil packing.Ìý
Doctor Nur also explained the mechanism ofaneurysmhealingthrough EVT.ÌýThere are four things that he thinks are important in this healing: protection of theaneurysmneckassociated withcoiling packing;flow diversion effect;neo-intimal formation;and angular remodeling of the vein branches.Ìý
“Several techniques for inserting thecoilinside are very important to reduce the risk ofthromboemboliccomplications,” he continued.
While doctor Nur explained about his experience in Surabaya, two other speakers also shared their knowledge and experiences.ÌýProf.ÌýTetsuyoshi explained the clippingsurgeryfor amiddle cerebral artery aneurysmwhile Dr. Abrar explained his clinical experience regarding when toperform cliporcoil.ÌýThe webinar can be accessed on Faculty of Medicine UNAIR YouTube account (Ìý).
