UNAIR NEWS– Inspiring elementary school students (SD) can be done in various ways.One of them is through the professions.Rekha Finazis has done it because of her concern for elementary school students in the suburbs, she was moved to participate in the 4th Sidoarjo Inspiration Class at SDN Pulungan, Sedati Sub-district, Sidoarjo Regency, on Monday, January 15.
Rekha had an opportunity to share stories about her profession as a staff of Information and Public Relations Center at 51¶¯Âþ.
“Initially I was interested it is good to inspire others, sharing experiences to elementary school students,” said Rekha.
Inspiration Classes are activities that facilitate professionals from diverse backgrounds to contribute and teach remote elementary schools with minimal facilities.
Besides Rekha, there are six others who try to inspire the students.They work as a yoga instructor, a laboratory assistant, pharmacist, graphic designer, medical records staff, medical analysts, a professional in finance.
The condition of the school in SDN Pulungan was not quite comfortable for students to learn.It was a small school.In fact, the students have to use the rooms in turns for class I, II, and III due to limitations.If it rains on Sunday evening, they cannot do flag hoisting ceremony because the pages are muddy.
On that occasion, Rekha gave explanations to children about the public relations.He gave explanations on the existing divisions in her workplace, such as protocol,customer care, multimedia, andnewsroom.
“The sixth graders were very enthusiastic about listening to my stories.Their enthusiasm increased when I played a video about the public relations job and UNAIR, ” she added.
Although all financing activities carried out independently, but it did not dampen her spirits to share with the teachers and facilitators as well as the event documentator.In order to follow this Inspiration Class, they were willing to leave work.They also come from various cities with their own funding.
Rekha admitted that she was happy to follow Inspiration Class activities because she was not only teaching and inspiring elementary students, but also learning a lot from them.
œIt weren™t not only elementary school students who learned from us, but we also learned from them.I also learned from other volunteer friends with different professional backgrounds, “said the master™s degree student of Epidemiology Faculty of Public Health (FKM) .
After the volunteers presented their professions, the children wrote down their dream jobs various sticker papers.They then flew balloons together with the teachers and event facilitators.
In the activities that take place annually, Rekha hoped that the students™ ideals written by the children can come true later when they grow up.Like the Inspirational Class jargon,Teaching for a day, Inspiring for lifetime.
“I hope the Inspiration Class can be a medium that always inspires the young generation of Indonesia.Inspiring for a day, but the memory remains for the rest of their lives, “Rekha said.(*)
