UNAIR NEWS –Being away from family to study in the city is one of the toughest periods that must be faced by regional students.The new academic and socio-cultural environment in the city requires them to be both adaptive and active especially in realizing the goals of local students in college.
The role of regional student forums is also the key.One of them is what the Community from Kalimantan Island has done, namely “Borneo “.
Founded in 2016, Borneo UNAIR was born from the desire of students to create community groups and introduce campus life at UNAIR to the community especially students from Borneo.The community has two branches, in Surabaya UNAIR and Banyuwangi PSDKU UNAIR with 193 students.
Welcome Party
To strengthen the bond among Kalimantan students who study at UNAIR, Borneo UNAIR community held aWelcome Partyat Pangeran Antashari Dormitory, Karangmenjangan, Surabaya, on Friday, August 31.
Head of Borneo UNAIR from Banjarmasin M. Aulia Rahman explained that 35 students gathered in order to introduce Borneo UNAIR.They were representatives of students from South Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, and North Kalimantan.
“We will discuss about promoting UNAIR to Kalimantan schools.Explaining about the cost of education, facilities, tips, and tricks to enter UNAIR through UNAIR Sapa Negeri Program from the Forsida (Regional Affiliation Forum), “he explained.
Students who study in Department of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) said that there were other activities such as Sharing and Relaxing Around Borneo, an activity to strengthen regional kinship. Also, Iftar event during Ramadan.
“There檚 also Friday Sharing, Borneo UNAIR’s social service activities to the community,” he said.
Furthermore, Aulia explained the biggest goal of Kalimantan students studying at UNAIR is to contribute to Borneo UNAIR activities.The goal is to become a family and be mutual benefit to the region (Kalimantan).
Not only that, he also instructed new students who join theWelcome Party.“Do not be afraid to study outside the island of Borneo.Because, here we have a family name or group called Borneo UNAIR, “he said.
“Continue the spirit of our predecessors to advance the regions where we come from Pangeran Antashari, M. Zaini Abdul Gani, and Guru Sekumpul,” he added.(*)
