Syarif, Ph.D. In the oration delivered in Garuda Mukti Hall, Management Office Building Campus C, Mulyorejo. Laode emphasized that corruption is not a new thing. Even in Indonesia, the people have been reminded by the first vice President, Moh. Hatta.
淥ur vice president in 1961 has warned us not to let corruption be a custom in Indonesia. I wish we all free from that shackle, said the man from Makassar.
In the oration 淥ptimalization of University Roles in Guarding Anti-Corruption, the alumnus of Universitas Hasanuddin Makassar explained various corruptions happen in Indonesia, from bribery, procurement of goods and services, power abuse and finance abuse, illegal levies to money laundering. Ironically, he emphasized that the perpetrators were people who have been to college.
淪o corruptions are about greed. A lot of corrupt officials are not from the poor. They have even been to college But that檚 the temptation, he said.
Most corruptions were done by people with high education, the alumnus of FH UNHAS also reminded the importance of university檚 roles in guarding anti-corruption early on.
漃TN must be swift anticipating the development, including new m.o. of corruption. We have University Tri Dharma. This is why I regret it, only a few campuses discuss corruption, he explained.
Laode M Syarif also encouraged the university to at least do four things in guarding anti-corruption agenda. They operate as anti-corruption study center, pool of experts, anti-corruption movement center and also anti-corruption education center.
淎ctually, KPK expects more supports from the university regarding anti-corruption, he said.
The university supports should be started from the university itself, such as by providing courses in anti-corruption. It is rarely done. Furthermore, it is also important to initiate students activities based on integrity and supporting anti-corruption campaign.
淏ut the university has to be improved first, so they won檛 be ridiculed by others. University has to retain its dignity to be the role model and teacher for the nation, said the apprentice of Baharuddin Lopa, anti-corruption activist. (*)
