LPPA-HKI UNAIR Publicizes HKI and Halal Products in SMKN 6 Surabaya

UNAIR NEWS Academic Product Development and Intellectual Property Right 51动漫 held a publicization on Intellectual Property Protection and Halal Products for students of SMKN 6 Surabaya. It was held in SMKN 6 Jl. Margorejo, Wonocolo, Surabaya, on Monday March 8.

With the secretary of the LPPA-HKI Andi Hamim Zaidan, M.Si., Ph.D., the event was opened by the chairman of LPPA-HKI UNAIR Prof. Dr. H. Sukardiman, Apt., MS, and attended by 100 students and teachers of SMKN 6 Surabaya. They are from different majors, Patisserie, Hospitality, Hairdressing, Restaurant Management, fashion, Skin Beauty Management, Multimedia, Travel Business and Accounting.

From LPPA-HKI, there were two speakers, Dr. Mas Rahmah, SH., MH., LLM who presented about HKI protection, while Dr. Pratiwi Pudjiastuti, M.Si, presented about Law number 33/2014 regarding Halal Product Guarantee of P-IRT and UMKM.

In his address, Prof. Sukardiman said that the students of SMKN 6 Surabaya are potential HKI producers. Through the event, they are expected to be entrepreneurs or creators and they can understand how to protect their products so they are legally protected from piracy.

滷or LPPA-HKI UNAIR, it was the second community service, after the first one in SMKN 5 Jl. Prof. Dr. Moestopo Surabaya. It had the same objectives, Prof. Sukardiman, who was also a professor of Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) UNAIR.

In the presentation, Dr. Mas Rahmah explained that any new innovations can be registered in HKI, it can be a copyright (science, art, literature) or industrial rights such as trademarks, patents, industrial design, lay-out design, integrated circuit and plant variety protection.

According to UNAIR HKI expert, the students are potential creator of products with commercial values. All eight majors have the same opportunity to create something such as recipes, fashion products, hairstyles and etc. There are creative works to be registered and protected by HKI.

滸etting HKI will acquire reputation for the students, schools, regions or even the county. The product itself will be safe, protected from theft, piracy and registered by other people. If it is not registered, it can inflict great loss, said Dr. Mas Rahmah.

滻f you want to register HKI, come to LPPA-HKI, we are ready to assist the registration process, said the lecturer of Faculty of Law UNAIR.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pratiwi Pudjiastudi, M.Si., started her presentation by explaining the definitions of halal and thoyyib (good/safe). Halal is everything allowed by God.

漇o if a dish is halal, it must be thayyib, consumable, useful for health, good quality, disease free, not expired, hygienically cooked, well-packaged, etc, she explained.

Therefore, certification and halal labeling is important as they protect consumers from any negative effects of food products. Because of this importance, both of them are handled by different agencies. Halal is handled by Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and thayyib is handled by Food and Drug Monitoring Agency.

Before registering the product, either for acquiring halal certificate or passing BPOM test, there should be a workshop or an educative event. In the workshop, the requirements and the process are explained. For halal certificate registration, as of July 2012 can only be done online through . For applicants for household industries category (whose product can only last for 7 days) can register in Health Agency in the area.
