UNAIR NEWS Annas Prasetyo Adi been long times took part in stem cell laboratories and wanted to contributes in health field by utilizing blood plasm wasted of patient in stem cell isolation process. He wrote the thesis entitled Proliferasi Mesenchymal Stem Cells From Human Exfoliated Deciduous Teeth (Shed) yang di Kultur Pada Media Dengan Plasma Darah Manusia/ Proliferation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells From Human Exfoliated Deciduous Teeth (Shed) that been cultured on human blood plasma , by his thesis he was awarded as the best graduate of master program from Faculty of Science and Technology 51 with GPA 3.84.
His concern about high cost of stem cell therapy treatment motivated him to find out a new alternative. This master student of biology had idea to make blood plasma of patient as fetal bovine serum (FBS) substitutes that during in times as an important component of mixture of stem cell culture medium.
“The use of cultured stem cells in the modified medium can reduce the dangers of rejection and is safer when used in clinical applications because the blood plasma is derived from the patient itself,” the Sidoarjo-born men said
In order to his academic knowledge, Annas also capable in modifying his laboratory equipment to complete less facility of equipment.
In the beginning, I was hard to conduct this research due to limited facilities, but after I modified the equipment, finally, I discovered new knowledge that Ive never get before, Annas said
He is such a persistent man. He conducted the research every day in laboratory by the wholeheartedly.
Persistence and always keep trying to finish what Ive started. Although sometimes I woke up in midnight and sacrificed my leisure time to do this but the most important I did all by wholeheartedly and pleasure, Annas said
He did not expect that an ups and downs process that he has been through brought him as the best graduate of master program Faculty of Science and Technology. (*)
