UNAIR NEWS听– Literacy activists affiliated in Literate Millennial Movement community (L-MMove) held intellectual-based social activities called NgabubuRead.听The activity was held on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Roudlotul Muttaqin Joglo Mosque, Sidoarjo. It was themed Moco Kahanan.听Through these activities, L-MMove invited the public, especially the millennials, to read a lot to avoid being misled by fake news.
“Moco Kahanan means Reading Life, through this activity, we want people to read phenomena in life so they won檛 fall prey to听hoaxes,” said Lutvi Aldian Syah as the chief executive.
The event was Islamic books handover from representative of Library and Archives Agency of East Java to the Head of Joglo Mosque management.听The event was also attended by Drs.听Sudjono MM.听as head of East Java Library and Archives Agency.
Interestingly, participants were from various elements of society, student organizations, and literacy community.听They were from Student Associations (Hima) of D3 Library, UNAIR Information and Library, Library Wijaya Kusuma University, Indonesian School Library Workers Association (ATPUSI), and Community Reading Park Forum (TBM).听The participants were very enthusiastic during the events especially children.
L-MMove also had the opportunity to give certificates of appreciation to Surabaya literacy activists, Yusron Aminulloh as听Founder of MEP Training Center听and Handoko, activist of听Story Telling听Surabaya.
Lutvi hoped that the award will trigger a spirit of community literacy.听“In the future, we will continue to build networks between individuals and communities to realize this shared commitment about the literacy movement,” he said.
Meanwhile, Achmad Fikri Fitrananda as Founder of L-MMove said that the holding of NgabubuRead event was a form of concern for literacy activists in fostering a reading culture in the community.听“This event is also part of our shared lesson, that literacy should not be simplified only to reading and writing on paper,” he said.
Fikri also said that the most basic resistance is fighting ignorance.听“Fight by reading!听Everything needs to be read, phenomena or discourse, “he said, quoting Soesilo Toer.听(*)
