Departemen Akuakultur 51¶¯Âþ (UNAIR) menyelenggarakan Guest Lecture internasional yang menghadirkan lima peneliti terkemuka dari Universitas Szczecin, Polandia, dan Universitas Rzeszów, Polandia, pada tanggal 4-5 Desember 2025. Acara ini menampilkan penelitian mutakhir mengenai diatom dan mikroalga yang berkaitan dengan biomonitoring lingkungan serta genomik mikroalga. Guest Lecture ini diikuti oleh 150 mahasiswa semester 3 atau tahun kedua dalam perkuliahan mereka.
Guest Lecture ini menghadirkan lima pembicara utama dengan topik penelitian yang beragam dan menarik. Dr. Elif Yilmaz dari Universitas Szczecin akan membuka sesi pada hari pertama (4 Desember 2025, pukul 15.15-15.45 WIB) dengan topik tentang pembentukan danau vulkanik, kimia, dan kehidupan dalam lingkungan ekstrem. Sesi pertama ini akan dimoderatori oleh Dr. Ayulana.‹
Pada slot berikutnya (16.00-16.30 WIB), Dr. hab. MaÅ‚gorzata Bak, prof. US juga dari Universitas Szczecin akan mempresentasikan penelitian mengenai biomonitoring berbasis diatom. Topik ini relevan untuk upaya pemantauan kualitas lingkungan perairan menggunakan organisme hidup sebagai indikator kesehatan ekosistem.‹
Pada tanggal 5 Desember 2025, Guest Lecture dilanjutkan dengan tiga pembicara lainnya. Dr. PrzemysÅ‚aw DÄ…bek dari Universitas Szczecin akan membahas sistematika diatom berdasarkan filogeni pada pukul 15.00-15.30 WIB dengan moderator Madam Dita. Selanjutnya, Dr. Mateusz Rybak dari Universitas Rzeszów akan menyajikan penelitian tentang diatom dari sumber air mineral pada pukul 16.00-16.30 WIB. Penutup Guest Lecture akan diisi oleh Dr. Romain Gastineau dari Universitas Szczecin yang membahas investigasi genomik mikroalga pada pukul 17.00-17.30 WIB dengan moderator Madam Syifania.‹
Setiap presentasi dialokasikan waktu 30 menit, diikuti sesi tanya jawab selama 10-15 menit untuk memungkinkan peserta berinteraksi langsung dengan para peneliti. Acara ini dapat diakses melalui platform Zoom, memudahkan peserta dari berbagai lokasi untuk mengikuti perkembangan penelitian terkini di bidang mikroalga dan biomonitoring lingkungan.‹
Guest Lecture ini merupakan inisiatif penting untuk memperkuat kolaborasi akademis internasional antara UNAIR dan institusi penelitian di Polandia, sekaligus memberikan kesempatan kepada mahasiswa dan peneliti Indonesia untuk mempelajari metodologi terkini dalam penelitian mikroalga dan aplikasinya untuk monitoring kualitas lingkungan perairan.

UNAIR International Guest Lecture: Experts from the University of Szczecin and the University of Rzeszów Share Research on Microalgae and Extreme Environments
The Department of Aquaculture at Airlangga University (UNAIR) held an international guest lecture featuring five leading researchers from the University of Szczecin, Poland, and the University of Rzeszów, Poland, on 4-5 December 2025. This event featured the latest research on diatoms and microalgae related to environmental biomonitoring and microalgae genomics. The Guest Lecture was attended by 150 third-semester or second-year students.
The Guest Lecture featured five keynote speakers with diverse and interesting research topics. Dr. Elif Yilmaz from the University of Szczecin opened the first session (4 December 2025, 15:15-15:45 WIB) with a topic on the formation of volcanic lakes, chemistry, and life in extreme environments. This first session was moderated by Dr. Ayulana.
In the next slot (16:00-16:30 WIB), Dr. hab. Małgorzata Bak, prof. US, also from the University of Szczecin, will present her research on diatom-based biomonitoring. This topic is relevant to efforts to monitor water quality using living organisms as indicators of ecosystem health.
On 5 December 2025, the Guest Lecture will continue with three other speakers. Dr. Przemysław Dąbek from the University of Szczecin will discuss the systematics of diatoms based on phylogeny at 15:00-15:30 WIB, moderated by Madam Dita. Next, Dr Mateusz Rybak from the University of Rzeszów will present research on diatoms from mineral water sources at 16:00-16:30 WIB. The Guest Lecture will conclude with Dr Romain Gastineau from the University of Szczecin, who will discuss genomic investigations of microalgae at 17:00-17:30 WIB, moderated by Madam Syifania.
Each presentation will be allocated 30 minutes, followed by a 10-15-minute question-and-answer session to allow participants to interact directly with the researchers. The event can be accessed via Zoom, making it easy for participants from various locations to follow the latest research developments in microalgae and environmental biomonitoring.
This Guest Lecture is an important initiative to strengthen international academic collaboration between UNAIR and research institutions in Poland, while also providing Indonesian students and researchers with the opportunity to learn about the latest methodologies in microalgae research and its applications for monitoring water quality.
