SURABAYA “ HUMAS | On Thursday (16/02/2023) FISIP UNAIR once again participated in the International Conference “Envisioning Southeast Asia and Indian Ocean Studies”. The second meeting this time was a follow-up session from the previous day as well as the closing session of the event.
As the Director of International Institute for Asian Studies, Philippe Peycam moderated the final discussion. Peycam guides participants to find conclusions and what programs will be launched in an inclusive collaboration between academic institutions in Africa and Southeast Asia. This collaboration will look at the further capacity of partner institutions, faculties and students to develop academic collaboration between institutions. Another goal is to forge new research, pedagogical approaches, and research-based educational activities, while strengthening partner institutional development.
Research and scholarships are the core points of this collaborative program. “We need to carry out student mobility immediately,” said Irfan Wahyudi S.Sos., M.Comms., Ph.D. As one of the FISIP representatives who expressed supporting opinions for the scholarship program. The result of the final discussion is that the participants agreed that scholarship program could be carried out at least 3 months to 12 months. Other additional programs included are double degrees between Africa and Southeast Asia, summer/winter schools, faculty exchanges and joint curriculum development. The final program to be discussed is dissemination. This dissemination program aims to disseminate ideas by encouraging academics to publish in international journals and conferences.
In the closing session, the event was hosted by Irfan Wahyudi S.Sos., M.Comms., Ph.D. and Lina Puryanti, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D. The final conclusion of this conference reiterated that the collaboration of 4 faculties, namely the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Faculty of Medicine (FK) and Faculty of Public Health (FKM) UNAIR aims to overcome the deepening of inter-local attachments globally/regionally, academic institutions in Africa and Southeast Asia. This collaboration is also an implementation of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (The Three Pillars of Higher Education). Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih as Vice Rector of UNAIR expressed full support and declared success for the final outcome of the conference.
The event ended with giving souvenirs in the form of batik cloth for the participants and taking a group photo.
