UNAIR NEWS Various efforts have been done to improve human resources quality, such as various trainings, student exchange programs and also inviting international experts to share knowledge. Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK) held a public lecture of Professor Emeritus Patrick Sorgeloos from Ghent University of Belgium, Sunday, April 29.
淭his public lecture was one of UNAIR efforts towards Top 500 World Class University. We hope that this public lecture can open students perspective on aquaculture development in the worlds, also draw students interest to try student exchange program, said M. Nur Ghoyatul Amin, a lecturer of FPK UNAIR who also initiated the public lecture.
The public lecture done in Room 301 FPK UNAIR was attended not only by FPK UNAIR students but also from Marine and Fisheries Polytechnic Sidoarjo. The lecture was entitled The potential of Brine Shrimp Artemia for Natural Food in Aquaculture, presented by Prof. Sorgeloo. He amazed participants crowded the room. During his lecture, Artemiasp. was elaborated as zooplankton utilized as natural food of a culturing activity.
Artemiasp. is rich for nutrients like protein, carbohydrate, amino acid and fat just like EPA (eicosapentaenoicacid), he said.
Prof. Sorgeloos also explained that 础谤迟别尘颈补听sp. production should be held in environment with high salinity positively correlated with salt quantity and quality produced in the same environment. Not only discussing 础谤迟别尘颈补听sp., its morphological and ecological aspects, Prof. Sorgeloos also elaborated the culture system of Artemia sp. until it was ready for purchase, also to know the production growth of Artemia sp. in some parts of the world.
Fantastic Economic Value of Artemis sp.
Prof. Sorgeloos for a few times has said that Madura is potential as Artemia sp. aquaculture sites. Artemia sp. as natural food has fastastic economic value. Prof. Sorgeloos explained that in one day Artemia sp. produced reach 400 kg biomass础谤迟别尘颈补听sp. per hectare, total production capacity for per year of biomassa础谤迟别尘颈补听sp. with and exchange rate $ 700,000.
